Are we allowed to understand what the cost categories we maybe contributing to are:

Is it purely for the technical infrastructure and techical operation of the site (i.e. hardware, software and Telco costs etc)?

Is it also for labour (e.g. development; administration and moderation of the site)?

After reading through the thread, i would welcome a Platinum members section, a optional membership, where those said members ,have acess to a few new areas. Perhaps a membership card and a window sticker, thrown in the pot with it to.

This site has my full support, and it would be a great shame if it was no longer, so keep up the great work guys!

On a forum where nearly all of the content is user generated what exactly would you put in this platinum members section? WINNER - 2009 Best Newcomer Award

I am sure, although I shan't speak for any others on here, that a £25 membership would be easy to swallow - I pay £2 something every week for Autocar - and I've read it all by the end of the evening - and RRS site is a constant source of info, amusement and meeting up with what have been good people, at meets, events etc....plus how all would we have known about the most excellent CHPR??

So in the big scheme of things, whats £25 ish a year, and forget about your principles....and I firmly believe it's not about anyone making any money - if it was used to develop any further work on here - how is that bad thing??

Just my opinion, but come guys, you know it makes sense Thumbs Up

I was just thinking out loud really. But perhaps a Muppet forum, like in a well known Subaru site, where we can go over the top a little bit extra with the banter, but without too much moderation.........all open to debate, perhaps if we share some ideas for this, it may be give Martin and co some further options on the future of the site.

We aim to keep moderation to a minimum - nearly all members know the line and don't cross it. 2005 Zambezi TDV6 - Gone but not forgotten

Yep - we don't have a bad job here. We do have to take some time out to moderate as opposed to partake in the forum, but I've been on forums where the moderators pretty much spend all their time moderating and nothing else. Wouldn't enjoy that very much Confused

WOW! Why is it everytime I trun my back it blows up big time? Laughing

I think we should consult Rupert Murdoch as he thinks the future of internet content is to pay for it!!!

Seriously, i've been a member of the forum for over 3 years and in that time i've bought all the branded goods because

a) It supported the site
b) It was good gear
c) I wanted to advertise the forum name

I also contributed the mountain bike from the August meet to the forum but not for the good of Martin, it was 'cos I couldn't be arsed lugging it all the way back to Cyprus! Rolling with laughter Rolling with laughter Wink (Only kidding!)

So, do I want to pay membership for the forum? No, nobody WANTS to pay if they're honest but this also isn't something that Martin runs for the sake of his own health. If it costs to run, then those who use it should contribute and maybe I am guilty of not contributing enough in the form of ongoing donations Question

But I think people have veered off track somewhat....

IIRC, Martin has said if you use the forum to sell something, then please make a contribution as rrsport.co.uk has helped you sell that item.

I think that is fair, and I stand by Martin and indeed VA in the need to keep highlighting this.

Agreed mate.

I think it's fair to say we've discussed this to death now and don't want to have this thread start to go over old ground. I suggest that if nobody objects, we lock this thread?
