Thumbs Up Good call. Change mine at 3mm as a) 2.7t aquaplanes quite nicely and b) at that level they are starting to get a bit rubbish when pulling trailers around fields.

Mate, which size are your going for? 275x45 or 285x50?

275/45. It's within 1% of the rolling circumference of the 255/55/19s fitted at the moment and only 20mm wider.

But being a cheap Disco3 driver, it may be a while before a suitably inexpensive set of 20s come up Laughing

Howdy learned colleauges! Been a while. Paul your tyres look like mine Embarassed

So then, heard a lot bagging out the Conti's and I tend to agree....although I did get 45K km's out of mine. But they flat spotted a lot and wore out on the edges. Mind you I was running them a little low on pressure for a long time (around 35psi). I now run them at 40psi and they seem better.

What is the consensus on what to put on? Mine is on the road 90% of the time, so I want a quiet tyre. Spoke to a tyre dealer in Sydney today who stocked Conti's, Pirelli's and Michelins. He tried to sell me the Pirelli Scorpions.....any experience with those?

I guess I want the quiteness of the Conti's, but also reasonable wear with a bit of off road ability

All suggestions appreciated! RRS TDV6 Bluetooth, VR, Roof

Good to know that having spent over £40k on a car people are still prepared to wring the last fraction of a mm out of their tyres Thud

That the legal minimum is just that, and that changing your tyres a little earlier may just be the sensible thing to do?

I always look to replace mine a little early but how early depends on the season. If we're heading into winter I tend to replace earlier than I might otherwise. 2021 L494 D300MHEV Autobiography

My TDV8 has Toyo's on which IMO are too soft for the RRS due to it's weight (my Lotus Elise also had Toyo's on as they are very soft and give lots of grip - weight isn't a problem).

If people reckon the Conti's to be crap then which other brand do people prefer ?? (please don't say Toyo) Rolling Eyes

Adding to the above question, for mainly motorway work and nothing more challenging than a wet grass verge, what would posters recommend. Im looking for price/longevity, ie value, above all else. RRS HSE Dynamic SDV6 2014

Hi,

I hated Conti’s on my Sports. Edged off all the time.

Switched to Pirelli’s and no edging, good handling and reasonable longevity (24,000 on the front and 30,000 on the back).

Same here. 1.6mm of tread in wet conditions is little better than a slick tyre on modern tarmac.

I use ATs so I tend to change them at around 4mm (they start with more tread so the overall tread use is pretty much the same as with a road tyre changed early).

My current Ats will probably be changed around October/November so that I get the full benefit in the worst conditions both on tarmac and off during the shooting season and if it snows. 2012 SDV6 - it's missing a couple of cylinders
2008 TDV8 - it was a labour of love and is much missed
