I received a letter addressed personally to me from JLR regarding this. Searching around I see comments on the Disco 3 forum to the similar effect but from 2015!!!

No, you get a steel bracket, some nuts and bolts and a spanner |

The finish looks like it's cast. So that'll be as strong as an ox then... 2012 SDV6 - it's missing a couple of cylinders

I'm booked into a 20 minutes slot at the main dealers (Harwoods Brighton) tomorrow. It sounds like I take the car to them, they have a look, give me a new spanner (and some other bits), I drive away, I fit it myself.

There was a recall around 2015 to check for excessive wear etc. if I remember right, had some sort of gauge to check it at dealers.

I got my kit today. No instructions. No guide to fitting. When to use? OK so I am being a bit unkind as you can work out most of it if you have reasonable intelligence. But I wonder what the average 80 year old will do (I'm 72) as I expect that they don't want to be rolling around under the back of the car each time they fit the tow bar. So I guess either they will not bother with the new kit, or they will fit it once and the removable tow bar becomes a fixed tow bar - but without the strength! Robin

I find it amazing that Australian cars do not have a recall even though the mechanism of plugging into the rear X member is the same, as is the lock - and our system has a much higher down force rating (the actual tow bar is different). There have been instances of the tow bar falling out but mainly due to "pilot error". 07MY RRS TDV6
