I'm considering fitting a camera, probably a RoadHawk. I'd like to 'hard wire' it. But cannot find a wiring diagram.

Fitted my Road Hawk last week its a great picture, I just ran my power lead round to the rear power outlet so I can still use the front one if needed. I have turned the voice thing off though not able to understand a word it says !!! |

Thanks all. Bit undecided between the Blackvue and the Road Hawk.

Just to add that before hard wiring the Blackvue I also ran the lead to the rear socket. The lead supplied was long enough to go underneath the headlining, down the front A frame trim, through the dash and along the back of the glove box, down the side of the passenger seat under the trim and still had about 50cm to spare which had to be tucked up underneath the console.

I can recommend the Blackvue, good quality videos and WIFI to the phone.

Decided on the BlackVue. Have ordered and will report when tried.

BackVue installed and tested today. Worked first time out the box. Seemed so simple I decided to follow Paulcp and run it in myself to the rear seat socket. Works a treat although it took about ten minutes for the GPS to lock on.

I ran mine down the windscreen edge so as not to interfere with airbags |

Thanks Muddywheels. Good advice I think I will go for the power thingies for the parking function but that's beyond my capability. So I'll try it for a wee while then commission an expert I think.

The standard wire easily reached along the top of the screen, down the 'A' pillar, behind the glove box, tucked up under the centre console and up to the back seat socket. I had about 20-30 cm to spare.

The rear socket on mine is activated as soon as you open the doors. I believe that it also auto powers off after about a minute when leaving the vehicle so it may be ok to leave it plugged in. I agree that the park safe mode is the way to go and following your good guide i managed to fit the Powersafe Pro in about an hour, putting the unit itself in the top glove box with the plug in connection of the cigar lead tucked up behind the trim by the passenger seat which can be easily unplugged if required. The only irritation at first is that, because the accessory circuit becomes live as soon as you open a door (hence my comment about the rear socket) the camera powers on after a few seconds which is ok if you are driving off but a little irritating when you are cleaning the car etc. this is however something which you get used to. |
