I'm considering fitting a camera, probably a RoadHawk. I'd like to 'hard wire' it. But cannot find a wiring diagram.
Has anyone any experience in this area or advise where I can find a wiring diagram?
Thanks
Hugh

I've just fitted a BlackVue 500 today using Muddy's guide

Don't know how to paste a link but if you search for "Blackvue" it's obvious which thread is the hardwire install guide. Also a recent thread about wiring into the interior light

Fitted my Road Hawk last week its a great picture, I just ran my power lead round to the rear power outlet so I can still use the front one if needed. I have turned the voice thing off though not able to understand a word it says !!! Cool TDV8 2007 window tints, side steps.

Thanks all. Bit undecided between the Blackvue and the Road Hawk.
Like the idea of wiring to the rear socket though..

Just to add that before hard wiring the Blackvue I also ran the lead to the rear socket. The lead supplied was long enough to go underneath the headlining, down the front A frame trim, through the dash and along the back of the glove box, down the side of the passenger seat under the trim and still had about 50cm to spare which had to be tucked up underneath the console.

It was then just an easy reach from the driver seat to plug and unplug it.

During the hard wiring I also came to suspect that the socket in the rear of the centre console switches off automatically about 2 minutes after the ignition has been turned off and the drivers door closed. If this is the case (perhaps someone can confirm), then no need to keep unplugging it as I was doing since the battery wouldn't drain.

I hard wired with the Powersaver Pro kit which gives the option of having the camera running in "parking mode" or turning it off via a switch.

BackVue installed and tested today. Worked first time out the box. Seemed so simple I decided to follow Paulcp and run it in myself to the rear seat socket. Works a treat although it took about ten minutes for the GPS to lock on.
Advice needed.
Since the A frame has an airbag in it which side should the wire be run. Door or windscreen?
Hugh

I ran mine down the windscreen edge so as not to interfere with airbags Thumbs Up

The rear socket is ok but will not give you park protection and takes a while to start up from ignition - if you're like me you want to turn the key and go - the camera will still be starting up when you have your first incident Laughing

Thanks Muddywheels. Good advice I think I will go for the power thingies for the parking function but that's beyond my capability. So I'll try it for a wee while then commission an expert I think.
The power up delay is not so important for me. At my age I don't do anything quick. By the time I remember where I'm going the thing should be on.
Thanks again
Hugh

The standard wire easily reached along the top of the screen, down the 'A' pillar, behind the glove box, tucked up under the centre console and up to the back seat socket. I had about 20-30 cm to spare.
Hope this helps paulL.
I've now 'played' with my Blackvue over the weekend and am so far impressed. The software is particularly good. Easy to use (it has to be for me) and very informative. Particularly the map of the trip.
It seams to work a treat from the back socket. Starts as soon as you enter the car and records after aproximately a minute then switches off a couple of seconds after it is locked. I may get the power pro later to ger the park function.
Hugh

The rear socket on mine is activated as soon as you open the doors. I believe that it also auto powers off after about a minute when leaving the vehicle so it may be ok to leave it plugged in.

I agree that the park safe mode is the way to go and following your good guide i managed to fit the Powersafe Pro in about an hour, putting the unit itself in the top glove box with the plug in connection of the cigar lead tucked up behind the trim by the passenger seat which can be easily unplugged if required.

The only irritation at first is that, because the accessory circuit becomes live as soon as you open a door (hence my comment about the rear socket) the camera powers on after a few seconds which is ok if you are driving off but a little irritating when you are cleaning the car etc. this is however something which you get used to.
