L494 Mobile data problems

Hi folks, I have an L494 & until about a week ago the mobile data worked perfectly…then, whilst I see 4g signal I get no data passing for online media or Nav traffic.

So I changed the SIM (same carrier - UK EE) but still no passing of data…the only way I can get it to work is by pairing to my phone hotspot.

I tried a soft reset, keeping my finger on the power button but it wouldnt restart..so I bit the bullet & restored factory settings…still no joy…

Has anyone else had this issue & if so, any ideas how I can fix it??

Many thanks

I think I do yes.
My biggest problem is the satnav that won't log in unless the car is connected to my phone's hotspot or the house internet. It then works for week or three and then I have to do it all again. But if it were working just on the internal data and had no access to the internet, I probably wouldn't have been aware.

I just tried connecting to my car's hotspot to see whether there's any internet on it. Logged in ok but then my phone tried to get to a login web page (the sort you that pop up when connecting to hotel wifis) and it failed. I assume there's some 'welcome' screen? Never tried it before.
So I'm guessing that my sim card wifi isn't working even though it clearly says 4G on the screen.

I suspect mine has never worked since I bought the car last June.

Was thinking of taking that up with LRCC but I imagine they aren't much use at the moment until they sort the cyber attack out. Once things are sorted, she's due back at the dealer to sort the noisy luggage cover so I may just throw it at the dealer to sort. 2021 L494 D300MHEV Autobiography

Thanks for coming back to me, mine works fine on WiFi from home or phone, even when trying different SIMs it’s the same problem…I’m personally at a loss especially as it had been working without issue previously.

Likewise I also checked each SIM in my iPad & both are problem free…

Just a heads up regarding JLR CS: when I called on a related matter last week the rep said they were not that busy and in fact less busy than normal times. She helped me out straight away and no hold to get through.

Just to close off my 'issues' (Hopefully).
Had a chat with a helpful lady at LRCC.
I had assumed data services, at least for internal components like the satnav were part and parcel of the car's 'services' so by renewing them, it all worked. I was under the impression that the sim card was mostly for the hotspot which I have no use for.
Wrong.
The car needs internet so there's 3 options.
Home wifi connection - fine but only works in the garage.
Phone Hotspot - great solution but you have to manually connect it each time.
Sim Card - have to pay extra for it.
So I renewed the Ubigi card for a year and magically all the 'connected' parts of the services, like traffic updates, logins etc are working!! 2021 L494 D300MHEV Autobiography

Am thinking of changing to a D300 so obviously a big change electronics-wise from the early L494 that I have.
Just picked up on the comment on the previous post 'the car needs internet'
Where I live the internet signal is poor to non-existant.
Not keen on any subscription type arrangement.
Whats the downside if I dont have a sim or connection?
I have no need/desire for any streaming or hotspot capability. RRS HSE Dynamic SDV6 2014

The only real issue I've encountered is in the satnav - which has connected services like search and traffic - and wants you to log in.
If you do, you can literally search for anything as it's querying the internet - so last weekend I wanted the quickest route to the local mercedes dealership (for my daughter) - just popped in Mercedes Leeds and it found it straight away , if not, I've had occasions where even a postcode search is hit and miss.
The app also allows you to set up a route on your phone and send it to the car too, though you could do that by setting up whilst the car is still in range of your home wifi, get the route to it and then drive away.

Outside of the satnav, there are other things like a browser, hotspot, some music apps etc but nothing that's much of an issue. I managed to have the car for 4 months without even realising the internet wasn't connected - the only thing giving me headaches being the satnav. 2021 L494 D300MHEV Autobiography

Cheers, I'm more than happy with the capability of Google maps so not having internet is no loss to me. RRS HSE Dynamic SDV6 2014
