Changing headlight direction for Europe

Range Rover sport hse 2014.

I’ll be off to France in a few weeks and according to the handbook I can change the direction of the headlights for this. The manual suggested I do this from the in-car driver settings, but I can’t find anything. (I don’t know if it’s related, but I can’t find the automatic headlight high beam assist function either that according to the manual my car should have…)

Is it something that needs to be enabled /programmed to be able to alter?

Hi,

If you can change the headlight setting, it is in one of the menus on the dash.

It isn’t the headlights (from memory) but “Drive on the left (or right)”

Not very easy to remove the headlamps on MY2014, it's a bumper off job.

The headlights are asymmetrical so need no adjustment, however you need to change the high beam assist setting from drive on right to left, so it detects oncoming traffic.

More junk information ....Asymetrical means the beam is biased to shine up the LH kerb. so if you go to drive on the right the dip beam goes into the oncoming drivers eyes.

Park in front of your garage door and you will see the light goes to the left.

The main beam does not change dependent on the side of the road because you are supposed to turn it off when vehicles approach Always listen to old people or when they die you will live on in ignorance.

It is a flat beam and needs no adjustment apart from the auto high beam assist option.
It was certainly on 2015 cars onwards.

AUTO HIGH BEAM [G1814328]
This feature of the Xenon lighting automatically selects and deselects the high beam, under specific conditions of road lighting and in the absence of other vehicle’s lights. The system is only active when the ambient light drops below a predetermined level.

NOTE:
It is not recommended that Auto high beam is used while driving off road.

For Auto high beam to become operational, the lighting control must be in the AUTO position (5), with dipped beam headlamps selected.

The Instrument panel warning lamp illuminates when Auto high beam is selected. See AUTO HIGH BEAM (GREEN).

Auto high beam will activate only when the vehicle's speed exceeds 40 km/h (25 mph). The system will deactivate when the vehicle's speed drops below 24 km/h (15 mph).

To manually select high beam, move the control to the high beam position, as normal. To return to Auto high beam, move the control back to the central position.

To manually override to dipped beam from high beam, pull the control to the flash position (2) and Auto high beam will be cancelled. To return to Auto high beam, push the control to the high beam position (1) and then return it to the central position.

To turn off Auto high beam, turn the lighting control from AUTO to headlamps.

This feature can be disabled/enabled via the Vehicle Set-up menu. See INSTRUMENT PANEL MENU.

The following may affect the operation of Auto high beam:

Highly reflective road signs.
Dimly lit road users, for example, cyclists or pedestrians.
Adverse weather conditions, for example, rain or fog.
Dirty or obscured sensor.
Dirty, damaged, or misted windscreen.
Oncoming vehicles partially obscured by a central highway barrier. 2023 P440e SE Dynamic on order -cancelled

Aren't you the user who couldn't change a crank sensor, so sold the old bus, so much for mechanical aptitude if you think 2014 headlights are an easy pop out job like on your old L320.

Is it really a bumper off job…? (Looks like I don’t have /can’t find the high beam assist)

I’ll definitely be looking for a fix to alter that. Can’t be doing that every time I go abroad… 🤨

It was an option on MY2014 dynamic spec, not sure about other specs or years.

I'm afraid so, bumper off, so front section of wheel arch liner too. You still have lights that are OK for Europe, the high beam assist is merely to switch automatically between high and dipped beam, it needs to be adjusted for continental roads to detect oncoming traffic and dip accordingly.

All L494 headlights are OK for UK or continental roads without adjustment, there is no adjustment lever fitted to any model as there was on the L320.

In a nutshell, you're good to go as is.
