Yes - the three chains, all the tensioners and guides, the four VVT sprockets, the four VVT solenoids, the three timing chain covers, the crank gear (and broken A/C pipe and coolant pipe).

And no goodwill from JLR after having bought several vehicles is a bit poor. Sure, you've had it 10 years but even so. Even a little contribution would have been a nice gesture. So that's customer lost - not that JLR will worry as they can sell then as fast as they build them these days.

I had a Mk4 Golf that needed a new gearbox just after it had passed the 60k warranty period. Garage spoke to VW who covered half the cost. And I'd bought the car second hand at 5 months old. 2012 SDV6 - it's missing a couple of cylinders
2008 TDV8 - it was a labour of love and is much missed

Business is business: JLR can (at the moment) sell the cars they make. I pay cash so worth little to the dealership. The warranty company have optimised the timing of their cover.

Yes, you're quite right but it does somewhat grate. You've bought 5 new vehicles from them after all. Brand loyalty goes both ways. 2012 SDV6 - it's missing a couple of cylinders
2008 TDV8 - it was a labour of love and is much missed

I was in your shop, having been a loyal customer for many years. Something went wrong but you refused to fix it or even help. So I went away feeling disappointed. I told my friends about your poor service. Now you are allocating vast sums to your marketing budget to try and get me back. But I was in your store and you drove me away.

It is difficult to attract a new customer to your store, but it is almost impossible to convince an existing customer to return after experiencing poor service. Some business owners get this and use their brains accordingly - but some just don't get it. Robin

Yes, Col, that sort of thing would have cost them Censored all but would be a gesture that people remember. I can see the OP's point too, of course, and it is his car after all. Bow down 2012 SDV6 - it's missing a couple of cylinders

I was going to say to leave a Censored review on Trustpilot (worked for me on someone else) to perhaps shame them into helping, but reading reviews on Trustpilot about JLR, nearly every one is scathing Big Cry , so appears they don't care about the customers. I get the frustration but when do we think factory support should end?
On the one hand, I was very happy when my 6 year old Mercedes got a brand new brake pump FOC, and on the other end of the scale, angry when my Daughter was turned down for a replacement suspension spring on a 3 year 1 month old Fiat Panda (bought new and with 5k on the clock).

There has to be a sensible point somewhere.

In my head, it's 5 or 6 years and 100k, whichever is the sooner.
After that point, don't expect anything from the manufacturer.

So in cold terms, 10 years / 100k is expecting a lot. Probably too much.
I have a 2019 Discovery Sport with the infamous Ingenium in it. Only 36k on the clock but I know full well that if the timing chain lets go, as they are prone to do, I'm on my own, so to expect them to support a 10 year old 100k car for a similar failure causes me some problems.

Chains go on BMWs. I don't hear of them fixing them. Wet belts on Fords are notorious but again, factory support is pretty much unheard of.

I am new to RRS, having previously driven my 2012 Jag XF for 11 years. I traded that in because it succumbed to the split manifold issue that affects the V6 diesel and at it's age and mileage, it owed me nothing but equally wasn't worth pouring thousands in. It had 130k on the clock, full service history. Should I have expected some help from JLR, or is a 13 year old Jag with 130k on the clock, outside such support? The aircon was also playing up? Is that reasonable at that age and mileage,

In truth, opening the gate to such claims would be ruinous so I understand why they refuse, annoying as it is.
So if 10 years 100k isn't far enough, then when?
