2006 RRS 2.7 gurgling when holding brake pedal

Hi All...just after some advice

Upon holding the brake pedal i am hearing a gurgling from behind the dash. Have done some research and there was a recall some years ago for updated vac lines and possibly servo replacement to stop oil getting into the brake servo and causing reduced braking performance and noises...

i have checked and i believe the work ahs been done, as there are two vac hoses, with a type of valve, but not 100% sure. I have checked the vin online and it doesn't say it is outstanding, but still not sure...

Therefore i am going to give Land Rover a call tomorrow and double check - but if the work was done and there is now still an issue, will Land Rover still fix the issue for free under this recall even though its years later? - are they still liable for past recalls if the problem which was fixed, has reoccured?

many thanks
paul

i kind of guessed that....what i'm asking is has anyone here managed to get a recall paid for by land rover, from such a long time ago?

although i dont see why a new vac pump would ne needed? - would have thought just a new servo and vacum hoses with a new non return valve, etc?

If not i will have to pay for the work obviously, but hopfully not! Laughing

Worth ago contacting an LR dealer.

They have been recalling the 2005 towbars this month, so maybe they have funds or good customer service!

i just got that letter last week...so might as well push for both to be sorted at once...never know! - its worth a try - will let you know how i get on...

if they wont do it, then i am probably looking at around £500 for new servo, vac hoses and labour....would do it myself but dont like messing with the braking system if i can help it....done lots in the past, but i already have the coolant expansion tank that i need to fit, so enough to do already Laughing

might look into an oil catch can on the vacuum hose too....

I must be the only one without a letter!

P017 recall was a plaster. The actual fix is a new vac pump, the internal seals fail and oil migrates into the servo. The modified pipework does (apparently) slow it down, but doesn't cure it fully

UPDATE:

went to LR dealer....they said it was too long ago, but it had been done - in 2009, so its lasted that long so cant really complain i suppose....

however whilst i was there they dealt with the towbar recall and gave me a bracket to install...i asked if they could check for any other recalls and there was another which expired in 2018 and the previous owner had not had it done....this recall was for the towbar again, but replcaement cross member and attachment....so i asked if i could have that done and they said no, its expired.....so i asked - whats the point of this bracket you just gave me, if there is still a problem with the crossmember and it could still drop off - he couldnt answer that one, but also i think he realised i was right. But he said i would be best calling LR customer services and questioning it....
🤣🤣😂
so i go in for one thing sorting and come out with somehting else that needs sorting....

As for the brake servo, i'm booked in for tomorrow and my local LR specialist who is fitting am original servo (said he would fit an aftermarket as they are rubbish) and vacuum hoses plus i am installing another one way valve and oil catch can, just to double up protection so this doesnt happen again in the future....

so that will be another job done....next on the list is swapping out the coolant bottle (thats been sat in the boot for 2 months) and regas the air con....

How do you have a catch can on a vacum? Is it sealed, and you just empty it now and again ?

I think you may find that towbar recall was to check for wear in the tow hitch socket, if it was worn outside specifications I think they actually replaced it with a fixed towbar foc. they did not replace the rear cross members as a matter of course.

yes - sealed unit with no vent - just check it now and again and drain is needed, but i doubt it will be needed and is a little overkill....even adding two more non return valves should be enough and i may just try that first and then check it in a couple of weeks for any oil....the vacuum is flowing towards to vac pump, so in theory there should be no way the oil can get back into the servo if non return valves are fitted.....

sounds right....but since mine was'nt checked i have no way of knowing, but i suppose this new bracket will lock it into place anyway....
