No Start and No Crank

Hi everyone, hope you all had a happy Christmas and New Year.

My Rangie died on me today and doesn't want to start.

Bit of background information:

Last week my alternator packed in, had a fault code for mechanical performance for the alternator and battery light on, so ordered a replacement.

I fitted it yesterday, car started up fine, no more battery light and fault code cleared. My diagnostic tool showed 14.5v so thought all fixed.

Took it for a test drive this morning round the block and it died, not even half a mile drive.

There is no voltage under the charging points under the bonnet.

I tested the big fuses in the boot area and they all seem to be fine.

I know the ground cables in the wheel arch common on these and i cleaned and put dielectric grease on these in summer as preventative maintenance but haven't checked these yet.

I have got a code in PCM called P0A0F-00 Engine cannot start.

I can hear something click but don't know if its starter or a any relay.

I also know crank is common on these, could check to see if its engine but i think its related to this alternator issue.

The nut holds thick wire behind the alternator was hard to undo as it was tight and i tightened it as hard as i could and thought may be that came off.

I apricate its a long one but if anyone can shed light i would be so grateful.

I am a bit further on, the main fuse 450A is blown that lives on the right hand side in the boot.

I am not sure why but if i find out i will update here.

Huge shout out to 2RRS who kindly gave me the wiring diagram.

Issue now resolved, the red rubber cap wasn't seated properly and i think electricity jump causing a short.

Its now all resolved but it would of been hard without the wiring diagram

Glad to hear you got this sorted!! I seem to be having the same issue, recently bought a non-runner l494 as a bit of a project - it came with no power to the car whatsoever, after a bit of investigation I discovered that the main electrical cables under the front wheel arch weren't attached to anything as the starter motor had been pulled out and the battery was toast, fitted a new battery and starter motor to the car and now the car has power, ignition and everything turns out but car won't crank or turn over, there's just a short few clicks coming from near the rear boot fuse box but I've pulled/checked/tested all of the fuses + relays in the 3 main fuse boxes and tested them with a relay tester and power probe and all seem fine, noticed however that I'm not getting any power/voltage at the battery posts under the bonnet and plugged in my scanner and have the exact same error code as you which is the only error code I'm getting as well, gonna have a look for the main 450 amp fuse you mentioned and hopefully that'll end up being my issue as well, was it hard to get to?

Before you dive there check if you got voltage in the engine bay!

It was bit of a pain to get too, but doable. Fuse is only £6 of eBay. Search for Land Rover 450a fuse

You have to take the side panel on the right hand side in the boot off,

The anchor points for cargo net

Then think I had to take spare wheel out

And then you can pull the lining in the spare wheel to side

Then you need to take a big plastic cover off

Then you need to take another cover off under neath and you can see the fuse. There is another one next to it rated 350A

Make sure disconnect all the batteries before you do this job!

Annoyingly I didn’t

Hey there RRS4ED!

Appreciate the quick response! Good shout about checking in the engine bay, forgot to check there, I already ordered one of the 450a fuses off of ebay last night in the hopes that this was my issue and seeing as they were only cheap Laughing

Luckily I already have most of the rear trim pieces removed so will hopefully be able to find it tomorrow, had a quick look today but only during my lunchbreak whilst working from home and uncovered some of the main fuses under a plastic cover beside the aux battery but the highest rated amp one there was 250 along with others in the 30/40s, will have another look tomorrow once I get the batteries disconnected, thanks for your help!

I did think as much but just ran out of time today unfortunately, luckily the weekend begins tomorrow though so I can have a good old dig at it Smile will let you know how I get on, hopefully the fuse arrives by Saturday or I'll be a bit stuck lol
