Heated seat hot spot

After getting a burning sensation after a few minutes of the heated seats being on I thought I’d do some investigation. Using a thermal camera I took some pictures of the seats.

Interesting to see exactly where the element runs.

The drivers seat has a hot spot seen in the photos that reached nearly 90 degrees.

They do eventually fail by burning out. I had similar on my old TDV8. Simple enough job to fit a new heating element pad.

If you do a search on the forum there are a number of threads about it. Thumbs Up 2012 SDV6 - it's missing a couple of cylinders
2008 TDV8 - it was a labour of love and is much missed

I will add it to the list of jobs thats slowly growing. Does it take long to strip the base down to replace? Not sure if its worth the hassle or keep an eye out for a replacement seat.

Good opportunity to renew the foam seat pad at the same time as they do tend to collapse over time and age with sliding in and out.

Cheers

I just bought the bits and had my indie do the work. Didn't cost much although I can't remember the details as it was a while ago now. 2012 SDV6 - it's missing a couple of cylinders

Spot on, thanks for finding that. I’ll get it done. Rear hub top bush today…….slowly working through the list.
