Centre console fridge - always leave on?

Should this be left on all the time? Or only when using it?

Daft question, but guessing the switch is there for a reason... Confused

Only when using it, in my case. Can't see the point of using fuel to cool an empty box for no purpose. 2012 SDV6 - it's missing a couple of cylinders

I thought that might be the case. Fridges are fairly power hungry appliances.

It's not really a fridge as such, just a Peltier cooling device and an uninsulated box. 2012 SDV6 - it's missing a couple of cylinders

I leave mine off all the time and find the cans left almost permanently inside (until drank) stay much cooler than if in the cabin on a hot day. If on a run and I do turn the fridge on I find it cools pretty quickly too. 13MY Range Rover Sport Autobiography SDV6 - mine

RRSTDV8,

I’m pretty sure this 19MY L494 AB and my last 16 MY had a “fridge” fitted as it’s an extra over a “cool box”.

I’ve just had it replaced under warranty as the compressor became noisy.

I assume that’s the reFRIDGErant compressor!

Scrumps, you may have a fridge as it has been an option more recently. In 2012, the cool box was purely a Peltier type cooler, not a fridge. 2012 SDV6 - it's missing a couple of cylinders

Use it only when you want it as it will drain your battery in quick order - 12 to 18 hours depending on temps and battery condition.

They actually work quite well and it can cool a bottle or two just as quick as a proper fridge. Work even better if you put cool items in the fridge.

On mine the fridge only switched on when the ignition is on, so even if you leave it on all the time, it only cools when the engine is running. --

There was an issue with earlier versions where they could carry on drawing current even with the ignition off. I think they changed the design at some point. I seem to remember talk of a different colour light on the switch denoting the change. Green LED for old, Blue for later versions? It's been a while, so this is all a bit hazy. 2012 SDV6 - it's missing a couple of cylinders

My fridge runs independent of the ignition which means drinks stay cold when the car is off - thankfully the fridge fan is noisy enough to hear when the car is switched off and serves as a reminder to switch it off when the car is no longer needed for the day.

I was tempted to connect through an ignition source and integrate a timed switch to allow it to run for a period of time once power was removed but I never got around to it. 07MY RRS TDV6
