Unfortunately I cannot say I am surprised. I have learnt so much from the members on this forum which is usually the case when you buy a car |

The rear belt dives the high pressure fuel pump which supplies fuel to common rail. On the 3.0 it is timed (something to do with creating pulses to level out the pressure as the injectors open?). As in the 2.7 the engine would just stop if it broke, but I have no idea if replacemnt becomes problematic on the 3.0. I understand when changing the rear belt on the 3.0 there is locking pin that has to be used, I guess to preserve that timing.

The auxiliary belt on my last Volvo let go and took out the cam belt and consequently the cylinder head. A lot of damage for a £20 bit of rubber. Change it if its old, no guarantee it wont fail, but at least you know you did the right thing. RRS HSE Dynamic SDV6 2014
