Hi,put a screwdriver under the cap when you have unscrewed it anti clockwise as it may just be stuck on if it hasn’t been off in a while. Andy.

NOT THE END OF THE PROBLEM........I had difficulty unscrewing the Oil Filler Cap because the last person had over tightened it!! Now the problem is the pipe the cap fits onto (pipe coming up from the engine) is loose!!!! THAT CANT BE RIGHT. I'm wondering how the pipe is secured? and what can I do about making it secure?!? Thanks for coming back Andy!! Not to computer savvy re putting up pictures. Its the short plastic tube section with a thread that cap thread fits into. Some how its become unattached to the top of the engine! It doesn't come complete out, its just loose. After putting the oil cap back on, with a little more pressure, the lot turns. Andrew Kennedy |

No not the dipstick tube......Its the short section of tube on top on the engine that the Oil Cap screws onto. When screwing down the oil filler cap, with a little added pressure the hole lot turns. Andrew Kennedy |

Thanks for staying with me Andy. I'm rubbish as this.....no not on the web page you suggested. This is the part number for another model but the same item as I am talking about Rover Discovery 3 4 5 Range Rover Oil Filler Cap Genuine LR053016 The problem is when I screw the cap down, the piece of tube its screwed to (which is attached to the top of the engine) moves half a turn. Obviously it shouldn't - it should simple be a quarter spin of the cap to lock it down - end of story. Hope that explains what I am trying to get over. Andrew Kennedy |

Tricky one isn't it. I guess I need to know how it should be secured and what I can do about it. I think I will be lucky if any one comes back with an answer. As the connection is not good, I wonder if I am likely to loose necessary pressure in the oil system. Thanks for all the help Andy!! Kind regards from a very windy and rainy Brittany. PS I don't like it when the car is not working as it should, I've had it since new and its only done 85,000 miles and in generally good nick. Andrew Kennedy |

I don’t think it’s a big issue to worry about. |

Looks like it might just turn and lock in unless the picture is just the cap bit only it's listed as pipe and cap, may just need new 'O' ring to tighten up unless a lug of some sort is broken.
