United Kingdom 2012 Range Rover Sport SDV6 Autobiography Santorini Black

The unit has it's own interface but my phone is still connected to the OEM unit and all controls still work.

Quick update:

I swapped out my original OEM unit that is dual view for a non dual view one and the screen now aligns properly.

I have also figured out how to root the unit and move my apps to system apps which makes the unit much much smoother to use, it's not fighting against the default apps anymore.

Boot screen changes to the range rover logo.
Home screen launcher changed to carwebguru.

I still have some annoying niggles I'm trying to get through but I'm starting to get to a point where it feels like it could be factory fitted rather than a bolt on after. (Software wise, obviously there are 2 big holes in the dash)

Looking good Gerd Thumbs Up Thumbs Up

Rooting and system apps makes loads of difference, unfortunately my unit doesn't let me 'replace' the system apps, but am going to try a few things to see how it goes.

How do you find the screen size? I mean the usable screen as large parts are reserved for phone and shortcuts top and bottom

Keep up the great work, look forward to seeing the finished article.

Cheers

Which unit do you have?

I'm in the process of removing the top and bottom bars to give me more space, just having teathing issues which I need to resolve. I will then add my own bar with my own apps that comes up on swipe up or permanent depends how it feels once I get it working

The screen size is excellent, having Waze full screen makes navigation much easier.

Looking good, do you have a solution for sorting the holes in dash?

Yes I have 2 options:

I have some plastic and a fibre glass kit so I can't try and build out gaps in the ones you see in the picture then have them covered in gloss black or leather to match

Alternatively I have the fitted panels for the LHD model, I have found a company that can use these to create a RHD version and then get it 3D printed.

I have an 8.8” Seicane unit. Unfortunately, it's not a PX5 system and therefore unable to overwrite the system apps. Here's the link to the build I did over the last couple years.... http://www.rrsport.co.uk/forum/topic47812-30.html

I'm still tempted with using a similar unit to yours as even though some of the functions won't work, I'll still be able to get the 4x4 info screen working, I'm just concerned about usable screen space, the I can figure out.

But I'm also I referred n android automotive and when the Chinese will bring out stereos with that software...

Cheers

Following with interest as I'd love to drop one of these giant screens in as well - I just don't fancy driving around with a big chunk cut out of the dash.. so if you figure out how to get RHD versions of the LHD trim made, let us know! Smile

I actually resorted to messaging a seller of these screens on Aliexpress to see if they could source RHD trim panels.. the response was just "You have to fix trim"

Well, yes, I know that .. that's why I messaged you Laughing Laughing Laughing

I tried everything to get hold of the CAD files to have them mirrored and 3D printed but couldn't find the actual manufacturer.

I'm in the process of gathering quotes to have the 2 parts 3D scanned and Printed. Should have them in the next week or so and then I will send them off to be scanned and 3D printed. I should then have the CAD files to 3D print as many as I want.

Quick update, Parts have been sent off. In a week or so I should have the 2 RHD parts and a CAD file to be able to print more.

Parts are made, they are just finishing them off. Should have them in a week or so.

Finally the parts arrived.

It's looks good but I do need to do a bit or sanding on them as the 3D printing lines are showing. I then need to repaint them gloss black to match the center console or have them vinyl wrapped in gloss black, alternatively have then covered in the same ivory material as the original.

Feedback welcome as to what people think the best approach would be...
