Brake Light Switch Question

Is it possible for the brake light switch if faulty to cause the transmission to lose drive, this vehicle has loss power around 13 times over the last 6 weeks, when I pull over the engine is still running and revs up ok, but no drive when I put in gear, Transmission/engine failure on the message centre plus the warning lights, switch of restart engine everything is fine for a few days and problems again, parts replaced by dealer, battery, egr valves, low pressure fuel pump, fuel filter, they cannot seam to cure the fault, the brake is not pressed when the power is lost, looking on the forum problems may arise when brake pedal pressed and the warning messages show up, that's when the switch is fault I think, any ideas anyone, please read my other post on this, Cheers Crying or Very sad Crying or Very sad

United Kingdom 2008 Range Rover Sport TDV8 HSE Java Black

It is an inexpensive and simple job to replace the brake pedal switch so worth doing just as preventative maintenance. Here is a link to an attempt at a guide on how to do it:

http://www.rrsport.co.uk/forum/topic30757....ch+replace

Another thing that has been reported to cause a random loss of drive is a partially seized or maladjusted gearbox cable pivot. It is again fairly simple job but reqjires lifting the car and removing the gearbox under shield to get at it.

Again no guaranteed fix for your problem but might prevent another future issue.

Good luck and hope you find a solution. Thumbs Up 2008 MY Java Black TDV8 HSE

Starting to think now it may be the Tekonsha P3 brake controller causing the problems, supposed to be plug and play with the plug in wiring harness near the brake pedal its a gray connector plug which is meant to be factory fitted but there is not one there, so got auto electrian to fit it, but because of the sensitive electronics on these this could be the problem, what do you think guys,

Yes, I would say that has to be the first port of call. Thumbs Up Visiting from DISCO3.CO.UK

Just changed the brake light switch £64 for the part from dealer's and when pressing the plunger on the old switch its crunchy feel's like rubbing you nail on a file . the new switch does not do this . looks like the switch could have caused the loss of power. Now only time will tell

Well the sport ran great for 2 weeks and 1000 miles and thought the problem was fixed but no. 3days left to go away in caravan and dam thing lost transmission powe5 timesr over the last 3 days coming up with same faults as original posted .so at a loss now to want the problem is.
when message centre came up with the transmission and engine faults i connected my obd2 scanner but no faults codes came up but only for the engine, scanner cannot read gearbox ECU so I am thinking now the problems are with the auto gearbox.

You need to get a complete list of faults from a LR capable diagnostic tool (dealer, indy, whatever). Thumbs Up

Re the transmission, what mileage are you at? Has it ever had a fluid change before now? Question

Perhaps best to revert back to the other thread now though? Thumbs Up Visiting from DISCO3.CO.UK

You previously mentioned the caravan brake being wired into the car and presumably this is still in place.

Considering the fault didn't reoccur until a thousand miles after the brake pedal switch was renewed it is tempting to speculate the caravan brake thing is overloading the brake pedal switch causing it to burn internally? 2008 MY Java Black TDV8 HSE
