I have a 2008 sport TDV8 and when braking smoothly its fine but if I stab the brake pedal quickly I get a knock, is this normal?

Could be a number of things...

Do you hear any knocking sounds when you drive over potholes? Do you hear a click if you apply brakes when reversing? Is there any play on your steering wheel? When were the brake pads last changed? How long has this been a problem?

Have you ever had the anti roll bar bushes changed?

You don't have a rogue golf ball rolling about the car do you.......I joke, but was found to be the problem in my fathers car many moons ago  ON THE WAY: BMW F21 M140i

I hear a knocking sound from the rear of the car when I go over potholes but the noise comes from the front of the car, Does nobody else's do this then? Its not a land rover 'charcteristic'! is it?

I have booked the car in with land rover with a complaint of suspension knocking and slight steering wobble on the odd occasion so hopefully they will be able to sort it as the warranty runs out in March

Will i need to request that they change these or will they naturally come across them when they inspect?

Most probably the bushes but I've known pads to move around in the past, hence asking when brakes were done.

LR will probably tell you that the wishbones are fine and then act surprised when the noise doesn't go away

I'm replacing my lower suspension arm on nearside and arb bushes tomorrow morning as I'm getting the same sound under braking.

I'll post how i got on once it's done!

Well 9 hours on and my lower suspension nearside is still not off the car!

I've removed 3 of the bolts with not too much difficulty, but the ball joint won't come away from the wheel hub assembly.

I've tried large hammers to shock it, pry bars, even blowtorch to try to hear it but the blighter wont budge.

My dads got a ball joint pulled of the screw type but this is too small to fit round the arm.

So at the moment its in my dads garage, over an inspection pit with no sign of movement soon!

Can anyone shed any light on what else to try?

I'm trying to get a bigger puller in the morning to continue trying.

If anyone can advise me or has a big puller for the job that I can borrow in West Yorkshire I'd be most grateful

Can you shorten the thread on the ball joint? The screw type splitters are about 1cm too small so chop a bit off the thread.

With mine, my splitter broke on me so i had no choice but to hammer it out. Just go to town on it with the hammer

I have looked at the splitter bars but the ones I have seen here are not wide enough.

Hopefully a local garage owner my dad knows will lend us one.

Once its off I only have about 1/2 hours work before re alignment.

It's been one of them days today. Never in a month of Sundays would I have imagined it being so blooming tight

Just an update:

I had to remove the brake disc, caliper and the arm holding these on and I put the whole unt in a vice and with some good old swings with a hammer the ball joint came out.

Then another nut became seized within the metal part of the bush and in turn I was unable to knock this out at all. In the end I used a grinder to cut the head off the bolt, then cut through the wishbone itself and the metal surrounding the bush!!!

This task was not pleasant and left my father and I very cheesed off to say the least, but we did it and all the new components are on the car, tight as they should be.

I've left the car at my fathers until Monday as this is when the alignment is getting done. I won't risk driving it until its been aligned properly after so much faffing about with the suspension.

I don't envy anyone wanting to do this task as its a real pain!
