Fuels.........

Right, an interesting experiment. Just been on a road trip and where possible I always use Shell in my JLR stuff as I've found the Td5's and V6's preffer it and produce the least amont of smog when bending the firewall with the loud pedal. So my run was 300 ish each way and I filled to the brim from quarter of a tank each way. The trip up hill I filled with V power and the trip back with common or garden Shell. Both ways took about the same time and where outside lane all the way. Going up gave 34 on the dash and coming back gave 31.

I used to always put the good stuff in, since had a change of heart and think its all a big con and its a rip off as it is, why voluntarily pay more?

Am I wrong? Should I go back to the good stuff?

I'm trying to do the percentages and it probably works out better in favour of using more of the cheap stuff ! The 2.7 does run quieter on V and the 3.0 TdV in the Jag loved the V, like you say it is probably a rip off ! 08 2.7 RRS "S"

being of sceptical disposition (think "nitrogen in the tyres? what a load of Censored ") I'd like to see proof positive before changing from the cheapest, usually Tesco. Not hearsay, or opinion, just cold hard quantitative data. ============

Since changing from supermarket diesel over to Shell "normal" diesel my both my TDv8's have not only run better, the fuel consumption is better by 3-4mpg (on the trip it's even better!) and I don't get a black cloud out the tailpipes if I floor the loud pedal 2020 Pangea Green 1st Edition D240 New Defender 110 is here and loving it

Did you see the top gear test with Alonso & his Ferrari F1 car where they ran it on the F1 Fuel then on normal forecourt juice. The results were very close and infact Alonso said that in some areas the normal fuel had a quicker throttle pick up than the F1 stuff Confused Ofcourse, if you want to be a healthy cynic then you may argue that this just makes a nice marketing stance for Shell to sell more fuel on the forecourt...... but surely... Top Gear wouldn't fall for that, would they?...... Whistle 2013 Discovery HSE Luxury - 3.0 SDV6 - Santorini Black

United Kingdom 2012 Range Rover Sport 3.0 TDV6 HSE Lux Orkney Grey

I've run several 'fleet' test on fuel.

The UK has common prevailing winds and a two-way trip can easily have a variation of 10% on fuel used just because of this effect.

You'd need to plot a circuit very carefully and ensure you drove exactly the same if you really wanted the answer.

If you think your RRS runs better then that's a good enough reason.

Tim - having discussed this wiith a buyer at Asda HQ i was informed that the fuel they put in the tanks at their stores is from the same source as the main brands so should not make a difference other than in your wallet.

The chemistry is there for nitro filling, but for it to work properly the tyre needs to be fitted and inflated in a nitro purged chamber, other wise you are just pressurising 10 litres of normal air with nitrogen, so the pressure is still unstable ! 08 2.7 RRS "S"

Both the RRS and now the merc have had problems running on shell.

Usually when warming up and under accleration have had mis fire and the kangeroos, evrytime it has happened has been on shell fuel.

As for the orig post hard to tell wind direction can make just as big difference to mpg
