My 08 HST TDV8 went in the dealers today to sort out the knock and the seat movement and they cured the knock by removing some front mounted body shock absorbers.....no idea what they do but something to do with the dynamic something or other...lol

Would love to know what they do, not sure I like the idea of them being removed if they were fitted to the new car.

The knock has certainly gone but don't I want the handling to be affected in any negative way!

Any comments please.

I have mentioned here before that one of the solutions recommended by LR is to check the condition of the body frame shock absorbers, two infront and two at the back. They are to be changed if worn. However, for vehicles with Dynamic Response, then the worn front absorbers should be removed altogether. No need for them! Malaysia Boleh!

But what do these front body frame shock absorbers actually do? (other than knock...lol)

I know LR suggest its ok to remove the front ones but not the back ones.

absorb shocks?? Shocked

Seriously though, I think these additional shocks were weak and in conflict with the dynamic response features, particularly in the front. That is why LR recommends to remove the ones on vehicles with dynamic response. Malaysia Boleh!

The dampers you are talking about are to damp oscillations between the chassis and the body: Because the body is attached to the chassis by just 8 large bolts with big rubber bushes, there is the possibility of the body continuing to resonate after the chassis has settled, so small 'dampers' were fitted (RRS only) between body and chassis frame - for added luxury and comfort - compared to the more functionally focused D3.

I guess with DR they are not as important, as the DR system is designed to eliminate larger movements of the chassis at source... Question

However, I would have thought it would be better to fix them properly and stop them knocking rather than remove them Whistle

That's a bit like removing a trim panel because it's rattling and leaving a big hole and exposed wires and bolts instead Rolling Eyes

The dampers don't knock, they transmit the knock from the chassis to the body. The body amounts are elastomeric components for isolation the dampers short these mounts and therefore are a noise transmission path, thats why they take them off.

Mine starts to knock only after driving more than 400-500 km. On normal days it's very quiet. The knock is there when slowly accelerating from standstill and also when slowly stopping. for example when you are driving in traffic jam. on high(er) speeds it's not noticable anymore. I cannot find something on this forum. Must be temperature related as the car is doing this only on very long journeys. Is coming from the front end. Any ideas?
