There's an S5 in the car park here.... great looking car! Thumbs Up Excellent choice Nick...

Not sure what engine the RS5 will have... an evolution of the V8 in the RS4 I presume, if not the same? Confused

Makes you wonder when you look at what they put under the bonnet of the RS6 Shocked

It won't outdo its big brother but it may be quite close... Runner up - 2009 Best Avatar Award Sad

To put a V10 in a midsize car like the A5 would be faintly ridiculous.... good thinking Audi! It would leave the M3 in the weeds thats for sure.

I suspect you were right first time S, an evolution of the V8.

The one thing I have read everywhere about the RS6 is its massive 5L V10 is mounted AHEAD of the front axle making it very heavily front biased - terrible for handling.

I suspect a bored out V8 or possibly turbo'd/twin turbo'd with cloe to 500bhp....

God, I want one now Shocked Runner up - 2009 Best Avatar Award Sad

Yep, that was always a problem with the RS cars... but they moved the engine back in the RS4, which is why that handled so well (within the limit at least). For that reason, I don't think the RS6 is the M5-slayer they hoped it had been... in real driving terms I still think I'd rather have the M5 although I've not driven a new RS6.

lots of discussion about the engine options on rs246.com

basically, the general consensus is the current V8 power output is about as high as feasible - this leaves two options

- drop weight and keep existing power output (not an option for me as that just means less comfort)
- V10 out of the Gallardo (current favourite)

plus my third option
- V12 tdi (just my thoughts)

either way it has to come out quicker than the M3 (for a while anyway)

Would the 5L V10 fit in A5/A4? If you look under the bonnet of RS6 it is one hell of a squeeze.

As for a 6L V12 TDi, again would it fit? They had to significantly re-engineer the R8 concept to fit the engine along with adequate cooling.

Would be a torque-fest though and apparantly you REALLY would never know the 6L V12 TDi was filled at the black pumps as it sounds nothing like a diesel! Runner up - 2009 Best Avatar Award Sad

ST - your same questions are being asked also - the argument is AUDI have managed to squeeze both into The R8 (proto and test vehicles) so in theory I guess its possible. The other option is to use twin-turbo V8 however loads of guys say its just too much power for the current V8 so a new unit would have to be developed if that was the case

Interesting Kaine.

It will all come down to cost vs return.

However after the critical acclaim the RS4 got they will have to make the RS5 even better.

A 6L TDV12 sounds bananas but I bet it would go like stink! Runner up - 2009 Best Avatar Award Sad

Isn't that engine the development from the R10 Le Mans car?

I'm surprised more concrete "rumours" aren't abounding... it's less than a year until ship date isn't it?

Yeah this is very consistent all over the net really.. i've been reading, V10 out of the gallardo.. or a turbo'd 4.2 V8... either will do nicely for me! 480 bhp would be the fastest thing i've owned to date anyway..

Although i have seen this:

And for £35k.. the RS5/RS4/M3 all seem over priced limp wristed wanna be's.
Although the above is a CL55 dressed up like a 65..

Could get the real thing like this:

http://search.autotrader.co.uk/es-uk/www/c...x_mileage=

For £75k. V12 bi turbo.. £150k new.. residual of around £40k after another 3 years.. hmm.. shame i don't own a big chunk of BP!
