First of all, check which KVM module you have.
My MY 2010 had the 2nd generation KVM, which wouldn't permit a new key to be coded, so I had to have a new 3rd gen KVM as well as the key $$$$$! |

If you look carefully at the left front door handle you will see that the small (stationary) part has a key symbol on it. You need to remove this cover to expose the keyhole.

I've had this too!
The problem is due to the sensor in the lower tailgate lock module not sending the "locked" signal to the system, which then thinks it's still open so can't be unlocked ... |
