adhesive removal

hi
my rear no plate has been stuck on with double sided foam tape, but lots of it and beyond the plate as well , and its unsightly.Any ideas on how to remove the tape , iv tried wd40 and a razor blade but its not coming off cleanly.
At the moment i have covered it over with a piece of black car wrap which i had over from my jag xf s
but its not ideal from close up inspection.
any ideas?
TIA
Dave

I use a heat gun (hair dryer might work as well). Heat it up and roll off the gunk with the pad of my thumb. A bit of patience and it seems to come off without any scratches to the paint work. 2021 P400e Autobiography

Just did mine yesterday. After trying a few things including WD40 which worked to an extent, I soaked some kitchen towel in petrol & stuck it to the adhesive. Left it for about 30/40 mins then scraped it off with a plastic trim tool. Any hard plastic (credit card) would do. Basically came of in a minute or so. Previously had been scraping for about 30 mins with not much to show for it. Range Rover Sport: Mercedes S63 AMG Coupe: 992 Porsche Carrera 4S

Brake cleaner will break the adhesive down as well.

Ask kindly to borrow some of your wife's nail polish remover.
Works well on the interior sticky buttons as well. RRS HSE Dynamic SDV6 2014

Be careful. Nail polish remover contains things like acetone, which disolve paint!

Never use White Spirit on paint, Methalayted Spirit is the one you need.

Eh up

I’ve used most methods above all work to some degree but require caution

I converted and used a rubber wheel attachment fixed to my drill, paid about a tenner for it, specifically for this type of job

Cuts through SA tape for number plates or letters with ease

Just use a bit of cutting compound afterwards, leave no damage to the paint finish and saves hours of graft
