Good afternoon. I have a 2006 rangerover sport. 2.7. I have a fault with it not opening. It's saying on the dash tailgate open but it is still locked and will not open. As anyone who can help me with this please.

The problem is due to the sensor in the lower tailgate lock module not sending the "locked" signal to the system, which then thinks it's still open so can't be unlocked! In my case it also prevented me locking the car doors.

The fix will be a replacement lower tailgate lock. It's the same as on the Ford Galaxy for a great deal less than the LR price (Ford part: 3M51R442A66AR)

I was able to release mine by repeated thumping on the tailgate over the lock - good luck with that!

PowerfulUK have a video of how to open both the top and bottom tailgates so that you can remove the trim panel. Open the top tailgate and then trip the latch with the shaft of a screwdriver to fool it into thinking its closed.

You'll need to take out the sub-woofer to extract the lock, so mark its orientation first because it's not as symmetrical as it looks.

Apart from that it's a straightforward job.
