If the code reader is reporting a crankshaft sensor error, then it means the ECU can't see any timing pulses from the crank, and is thinking that the crank is not rotating, so it won't fire the injectors (as it has no idea what the timing relationship is).

Check the wiring for the sensor first, before replacing the sensor. If they fail, they can sometimes do it when warm, so you get the occasional engine stall, before a full on failure.

Cheers Bob could well be the problem can the wiring be checked from the top as the sensor is awkward behind turbo at back of engine?

Sorry, I missed that you had replied.

Not sure if you still have a problem, or what you mean, but just fit the sensor, then try starting the car. If it still won't start, re-read the error codes.

Solved the problem one of the last checks looked down oil filler turned engine camshaft not turning.
Other side passenger bank providing power 2.7tdv6 passenger side bank does not provide enough power
to fire engine. removed rocker cover and all bits to reveal some teeth on exhaust camshaft not there and secondary timing belt had snapped hence camshaft not turning. Replaced cam shaft replaced secondary timing belt
re fitted ancillaries rail injectors etc 1.5 turns and away she went loads of smoke but eventually cleared.
Put timing belt back on to provide cooling starts on half a turn. half a dozen faults one is battery light red need to check alternator before fitting the rest of bits it is right at the bottom. Once confirmed ok fit the bits. Vehicle needs a full 12v circuit through car so all ecu's talk to each other which should clear faults????
