2014 Spec Comparison and About to Order...

Guys,

Have you guys seen a comparison table of included options on SE / HSE and dynamic?
- LR website does a pretty poor job of it...

http://cars.uk.msn.com/news/all-new-2013-r...C2%A351500
Seems to have a decent comparison.

Looks like i'll do the HSE, 21" alloys, roof glass and TV screens.

ooch!

Regards

Incidentally LR website has the best comparison - but you need to download the pdf brochure.

What annoys me is statements like:

Quote:
Next up is the HSE Dynamic which starts at £64,995.
Owners will get to enjoy new luxuries, such as stainless steel pedals, gloss black grille and vents, 21-inch alloys, twin speed transfer box, torque vectoring and Terrain Response 2 Auto – a system that constantly monitors the conditions and automatically sets the terrain program to suit.

Ok terrain response 2 auto is new, but really nothing much else is for £6k more

and

Quote:
Range Rover Sport SE will be priced from £51,500 – an increase of £1,280

Well ok - but when you add like for like its more than that. Mike

Thank you...

Was going to be HSE, not Dynamic... But tempted with the upgraded wheels and torque vectoring... 2022 P440e AB

It seems to me that buying a new Sport and not getting the dynamic stuff (on-road pack) fitted rather misses the point of the new Sport for those who won't be going off road... 2012 SDV6 - it's missing a couple of cylinders
2008 TDV8 - it was a labour of love and is much missed

HSE Dynamic is really the HSE of old and is what the new sport is all about. Mike

You think?

My SC doesn't have torque vectoring but does have the adaptive suspension; which, I think became standard.

All 2014s will have the adaptive suspension, but not the vectoring unless Dynamic (if read this right).
- I wonder that since I love my 05SC, do I need the vectoring??

That's the 5k question.

Then there are the bits I need. TV screens. 5+2 and roof glass.
- which makes it a 70k+ car.

Guess I'm thinking resale..... 2022 P440e AB

I think dynamic will be a better resale issue than tv screens or the dickie seats in the rear. Don't forget that adding dynamic also adds the two-speed tranfer box which broadens resale further.

I'd bet on the HSE losing money quicker than the HSE Dynamic... 2012 SDV6 - it's missing a couple of cylinders

Is difficult to say, especially on resale...the added the current SE HSE Autobio really are the HSE, HSE Dynamic and Autobio Dynamic in the new range.

its so much more cash for so little extra, im not personally convinced it will be significantly better if im honest.

The real trick will be to see what the dealers order on there own - that will indicate the new standard spec. Mike

The stuff that people will probably opt for such as the glass roof and the big wheels etc. will make the thing weigh nearly as much as the current RRS does. EVO reckon the one they tested weighed 2494kg with all of the bling stuff added. So much for LR's big "it weighs over 400kg less than the old one" guff.

If you were in the second hand market looking for a Sport, would you go for the poverty spec one or the one with all of the dynamic stuff that makes the thing more fun on the road? I think that an HSE with the off road/on-road pack added will be worth noticeably more than a standard HSE at 3 years old. Big wheels etc are personal things and easily added / changed by later owners. The mechanical stuff can't be added later.

I think the argument that the new models are "more for the same spec" won't matter in 3 years time. People looking at a second hand RRS then will be looking at vehicles that someone else has absorbed the pain and they'll be looking for the best specced vehicle they can - the dynamic stuff, TR2 etc. will be on their lists of wants. It's the stuff that they can brag about in the pub. The stuff that they can show off to their mates.

Having said all of that, I've always thought the idea of speccing a vehicle based on what the next owner will want is an odd concept. You're buying it from new - buy the vehicle you want and if that means it costs a few quid more over the 2 or 3 years you own it then that's just another cost of ownership. 2012 SDV6 - it's missing a couple of cylinders

None of that is really different to now...the only difference is the current LR change in spec associations.

What i mean, is the FFRR supercharge SE model seems odd if you think about it in old money, but that will be different in the future.

I sort of agree with you about future owners...but cant help think about those who didnt select the active rear diff now...its sort of the same.

Sometimes people want the badge not the technology (think how many people drive 2WD evoque's) - the price is important new or old, but sometimes its what gets them in the car, spec is secondary Mike

Yeah - I don't have the diff in mine... BUT my RRS has gone everywhere I need it to go...
- I've also never put it in low range. 2022 P440e AB

Unless, the market just thinks the car is way way over priced already...
- 3rd Gen X5 is 10% cheaper ... 3rd gen with options (probably has a better engine etc) could be alot cheaper in HSE Dynamic like form. Builder isn't live on BMWs website to work that out.

Forget LR's off roading capability guys... No-one is buying a 2014 RRS 4x4 for off road capability. Just look at Porsche, Merc and BMW... 2022 P440e AB

People do buy all land rovers for the off road capability, you would be surprised. Even if they don't use it Mike
