There is a MOUNTAIN of info about that on this site.... some owners have reported it fixed, some not... but search the forum for "knocking" and read all about it.

While there is indeed a mountain of info on the site about the front knocking “feature” of our RRS’s I thought this is as good a place to post a wee update on the situation.

Like many others I’ve had a several sets of bushings, a new steering rack & a couple of drop links replaced on my Sport to try to stop the knocking, but to no avail. There was talk about LR issuing an updated set of bushings to solve the problem, but that didn’t seem to happen.

However, I was at the dealers during the week & the service manager told me that LR are issuing a new tool / clamp to be used to install the Anti Roll bar bushings. While the bushings themselves are the same as before, the new tool will allow the bushings to be clamped in place with greater force during installation than before & is supposed to be designed to solve the knocking problem.

In my experience, each time I had the bushings replaced, everything was silent for a while, only to have the knocking return after a few days. So perhaps if the bushings are compressed with greater force, they may be able to tightened up so as not to come loose again.

When they get the new clamp, the service manager is going to give me a call & we’ll try it out on my car.

So I’ll keep you posted on any developments.

United Kingdom 2007 Range Rover Sport TDV8 HSE Java Black

As has been noted - it won't matter where you take it, you'll eventually be told it's a characteristic of the car. Some have the knocking noise, some don't. After 7 months of frustrartion I eventually managed to squeezze a deal out of my dealer whereby I give him £4800 + my car back and get a new one in exchange. £4800 was based on mileage (8000) x the 60p compensatory figure at the time. The replacement is here already and they've agreed to hold until 1st March by which time mine will have covered over 17000 miles. Not too unhappy with the deal - TDV8 losing only £4800 over a year? Not too bad so I'm quite happy with the way they handled it albeit they were forced into it by the mention of "Sale of Goods Act" and "unfit for purpose", etc. The only downside is once the deal was agreed they gave up trying to sort the problem and left me with it. They also noted that they couldn't guarantee the new one won't have the same problem. This is the biggest concern - the dealer has no power over LR to provide them with a faultless car - if the replacement shows the same problems we're back to square one! Pity really, aside the knocking, it's a cracking motor - especially with the DMS ECU remap!!!! Neil

2008 Range Rover Sport TDV8 HSE Rimini Red

I had this problem just before Christmas, the dealers were very helpful.

First they changed ARB bushes front and rear, which helped but a slight rattle/bang was still there, so they kept the car another day and replaced the (lower or upper can't remember) wishbones on the front and so far so good.

They told me that the bushes were all original but that Land Rover were working on upgrade replacements.
