Squelching Noise

My Range Rover has recently started to making a "squelching noise - like air being released from a plastic bag" when going over bumps on the left-hand side of the vehicle. I assume it has something to do with the air suspension. It disappears when someone sits in the front passenger seat. The noise appears to come from inside the cabin at the rear. I have checked for plastic bags or anything else that might cause the sound but have found nothing.

Any suggestions?

The suspension works fine - the vehicle is level and rises/lowers quickly.

Its bone dry inside, I try not to drive it in rain (when it does, rarely). The tool kit foam is dry and its components are located tightly. Nothing is loose inside the vehicle (the inside is completely empty), the suspension is not worn and the anti-roll bars are tight and do not make any noises. Hence my difficulty in working out where the noise is coming from.

Could the sound be like training shoes on a squash or tennis court,
squeaks every time you go over a bump or pothole,,

If it is its the shock absorber,
just done mine.. ===========================================

I drove the car yesterday with the driver's window open and the noise tuned out to be a very loud "Seagull squarking noise" outside of the vehicle (best I can describe it) when going over certain bumps. It doesn't happen over every bump and the vehicle handling as far as I can ascertain, has not gotten any worse from when there was no noise at all - it certainly handles fine, very well damped and no controlability problems. I am going to change the suspension struts on all four corners and fit some Bilstein high-pressure gas shock absorbers. I don't see much point in just changing the shock absorbers alone, given the vehicle's age.

If you rock the car whilst it's parked, do you get the noise? Around the rear wheels? If so, sounds like a knuckle bush (the bushes that connect the upright to the suspension arms). Had this on mine a few years ago. The rubber was split and wear had inevitably occurred. New bushes silenced the noise.

Can't remember which of the two bushes needed doing, sadly, but they are definitely much cheaper than a set of damper/shock absorber struts. 2012 SDV6 - it's missing a couple of cylinders
2008 TDV8 - it was a labour of love and is much missed

I rocked the car from side to side at the rear (on both sides) and I get a squeaking sound. It makes the sound a lot easier on the driver's side. I have to push it quite hard to get the noise. It is very firm so I don't think it is the shock absorbers.

I will replace the bushes first to so if the noise goes away before tackling the shock absorbers - I was looking for an excuse to get the Bilsteins.

It looks like all the professional press gear I bought last year will finally get used.
