Sounds like someone telling you the absolute worst news possible and the associated big bill in order to have you set up for the big bill he then gives you.

I can’t speak on the integrity of the mechanic, I have only used them once before. They carried out a new timing belt replacement and full service.

The pump /system has a operational pressure of up to 165bar = appx. 2300psi I don't think a pressure of 20psi to bleed the system is going to make a pipe leak or burst.

Right ok, that’s a lot more than 20psi lol.

Use this link from member "naks" it will take you to a site where you can download a workshop manual, even if you are not mechanically minded it may give you a bit of a heads up on things for the next time, and there will be a next time. |

The suspension arm bolts seize in the bushes preventing the bolts from being removed. It's a well know thing and the usual remedy is simply to cut the old arms off and then fit the new ones. 2012 SDV6 - it's missing a couple of cylinders 2008 TDV8 - it was a labour of love and is much missed |

At the risk of jinxing myself: I'm on my second RRS with the dynamic response bars fitted. I've done well over 200,000 miles across those two vehicles (indeed, the TDV8 was sold at 175k miles (bought at 50k) and the SDV6 is currently on 167k miles (bought at c.50k) so well over 200k miles driven by me) and I've had to have one anti roll bar replaced. That was a rear unit on the 2008 TDV8. Both cars used to tow, both cars driven off road (basically, worked harder than the vast majority of RRS we see on the road that just go to the shops and the office). The idea that the system is troublesome is, I think, incorrect. Yes, they have failures now and then, but then every car brand/model suffers a small number of failures. Frankly, the bigger worry with the system is corroded pipes in the front right wheel arch. Failure of the bars or the pump isn't really that common, I believe. The pipes are a bit of a pig but people have repaired them using standard hydraulic pipes/couplings rather than buying the original-fit items (and saved a packet in the process). One thing to note on that replacement kit is that you'll need to find someone who can flash the ECUs to tell them they have the dumb system fitted rather than the active system. Otherwise you'll get warnings and error messages every time you drive it. 2012 SDV6 - it's missing a couple of cylinders 2008 TDV8 - it was a labour of love and is much missed |
