Hi I have a L320 2011 Range Rover Sport HSE, it went for its MOT today and failed on steering wheel play, I had never noticed it but there was about 10mm of play in the steering wheel, he told me that the play was in the slide and not the joint, Can these be tightened up - he did say it looked almost new and said it was probably a cheap part, not fitted by me,

Any advice on how to get rid of the play

It also failed on drivers' side brake binding - not too worried about it.

New steering shaft fitted, and I could tell the difference, did buy the Land Rover part, the job it's self was not as bad as I thought it would be bottom bolt was a bit of a fiddle but removed that and pushed the shaft up and was able to remove it from the shaft on the box, next was the top which I got from the engine bay, you need a few extensions and a 10mm socket, be sure to make sure the socket is on properly or it will slip, to find the nut you need to look down the edge of the left plastic box if you face the engine.

Everything went back just as easy, does help if you have someone to move the steering wheel to line up the bolt. Lot of Landcruisers now sold

Hi Dean I bought the shaft from John Craddock, it cost me £283.21 + £10 for next day delivery and it was a genuine Land Rover shaft, quite a bit of money for what it is but hope it will never need done again. Lot of Landcruisers now sold
