Electrical Gremlins RRS 2007 L320 3.6 V8. Car stereo and car

This just started as an intermittent fault a few days ago, the car alarm would go off, I'd just unlock and relock the RR with the key fob, all good....for a little while...rinse repeat.

All seemed fine for a couple of days until this morning the missus comes into my office holding the car key saying the alarm is going off and the fob isn't working!
I go out to investigate, the car alarm is going off and the stereo is on (banging some nice tunes I was playing last night when I returned home) I try the fob....nothing.

I use the emergency key entry, put the key in the ignition and start her up. All is well.
I Take her for a 5 min drive. Park up in the drive and as soon as I remove the key the same happens, radio comes on (which I'd previously switched off) couple of lights on the dash flash (parking brake warning light) Which I have had no issues with. This time however with the door open the hazard lights are on but no alarm, I try switching them off but they stubbornly refuse
The car battery was replaced less than 3 months ago.

I insert key, turn on ignition a couple of times, remove key...rinse and repeat until the last time I remove the key no stereo, no, hazards, no flashing dash lights đź‘Ź
I gingerly back away not daring to lock or even look at the Rangey the wrong way and I'm sat her looking for answers.

Tried google, nothing, then paid ÂŁ5 to speak to an "expert mechanic who could diagnose my problem" on Justanswer, this is what I got...

I gave him all the information that I have posted here. Anyone had any similar experiences like mine? Car is due for MOT in less than a week so kinda need this resolved before then. Any magical fixes from Range Rover gurus? Should I follow this mans somewhat cryptic solution or just try and find an auto electrician?
Any help (or emotional support) much appreciated Sad

No sunroof, seems dry inside apart from the odd bit of condensation on the windows during wet weather.
I'm assuming some electrical fault, just trying to track it down and save myself the expense (and wait) to get it into an auto electrician!

your initial problem of the alarm going off, is usually down to a faulty bonnet switch (bypass it with a paper clip). It part of the latch on the drivers side.

But clearly you have more serious issues.

Hazzard lights coming on is usually part of the central control unit (CJB) function / fault which is part of the fusebox behind the glovebox.
I can't remember the exact cause.

I recommend you post or search the below forum. It's the same car basically, but more likly to find fixes on there

https://www.disco3.co.uk/forum/index.php?s...db528b5184

I suspect an autoelectrican wouldn't be able to fix it.

Oh, and the remote not working is usually down to a joint of 3 green wires (splice) that runs along the passenger sill)
Needs remaking or resoldering.

I don't know if you have 1 2 or 3 faults !

Thanks for the response, that hazard lights being on I feel were part of the alarm but I was sat with the door open and the key in the ignition.
Will look up the paper clip trick.
Knowing my luck I'll have many faults. (since I've had the car about 6 months she's only needed the MAF censors replaced and the rubber intake hoses replaced so not too bad)
Will look through the post you linked.

Much appreciated

The above link doesn't work?

Link to splice thing for fob - https://www.disco3.co.uk/forum/central-loc...een+splice

This happened to me after a bit of wading but can be a dry joint too, so followed those instructions, it was spot on and an easy fix.

There are many places CAN issues can occur

Instrument Pack
TCCM
CAN wiring at rear end
Failed ECU

If wiring checks out OK, and no water ingress into TCCM, suspect the IPC at fault

All appears to be well now regarding this issue. Not sure if it was caused by the heavy rains we had but I'm assuming I got a bit of water ingress into he wiring, will need to investigate further once I have her back.
The main problem I appear to be facing is the headlights pointing down. When I switch the vehicle on they don't self level (she's in for her MOT ATM and has failed on the headlight positioning)
I have no warning lights on dash, so my mechanic is suggesting an auto electrician to diagnose the problem. I understand it could be a multitude of things, just not where to start!
Could buy a second hand pair of headlights from eBay and hope for the best I suppose.

Really appreciate your advice guys, thank you

See if the top label on the headlights say AFS

Those ones move the beam around electronically and can be unreliable.
Also has a forward facing orange light beam icon in the Speedo cluster at ignition switch on.

Maybe non AFS ones would work and pass the mot. (Still get xenon )

Or maybe an AFS replacement may fix it (but not guaranteed )

Try one of each Rolling with laughter depending on cost

There was a post on this very issue just a day or two ago,,,, if my memory serves Rolling Eyes first suggestion was to check the earth's behind each headlight, but apparently the fault was the small motors that drive the lights. It was found that on the faulty unit the motor drive had basically ran to the end of its travel and jammed. Once "unwound" so to speak it centered itself when plugged back in. 2010 RRS, TDV8

I don't remember seeing any orange light on the dash at start-up. So I'm pretty sure they are non AFS I've just put the Rangey in for a standard MOT and the mechanic is convinced this is an electrical problem as the lights wont communicate with his diagnostic tool. May need to do a bit of research myself between the difference in these lights. I'm hopeful its a simple fix but expecting to have to replace the lights. Just don't want to pay a fortune for an auto electrician if one is not needed

Standard lights don’t have a communication interface. So that’s why they won’t talk

See this video. Do you have a similar problem ?

We had a customer drive 3 hours to us for MOT repairs, as the station failed it for Adaptive Self Levelling light not working

The car didn't have AFS Laughing
