Car won't go into access mode when brakes are engaged

I don't really need to use it, but I will try and raise/lower the air suspension every so often just to make sure everything is working.

Every time I try to lower the suspension to access mode, with either the car put in park or my foot on the brakes, the car detects an obstruction and shoots up into an extended clearance mode.

The car will lower into access mode whenever it is in neutral and I'm not applying brakes, or when travelling at a slow enough speed.

Is this something that is normal, or should I be concerned about it?

I'm a bit timorous of playing about with the suspension too much, as I've heard horror stories of the suspension failing with people on motorways, loosing control of the vehicle and blow outs happening.

Whenever I take my car to get serviced next at a local indie (this is my first time owning a RR) do the mechanics check the EAS components as part of the service, or should I specially request for them to have a look and make sure everything is ok?

I really wouldn't take any notice of the horror stories, these are usually, well Numpty down the Pub said "blah blah blah" who has probably never even been in a Sport yet alone owned one.

Mine certainly goes into access mode with the brakes applied and in park, so I would assume you do have a issue of some sort there. Although I very rarely do it that way, usually do it while moving slowly or with transmission in neutral and all brakes off, as work on the basis it allows the suspension to find it's own natural position without loading up the the bushes, well that's my theory anyway, rightly or wrongly.

Cheers
Col

I would say it’s because the park brake is on and fairly normal.

I wouldn’t worry about it.
A suspension calibration may fix it, but. I would leave it alone

Make absolutely no difference to mine if the park brake is on or off, it still goes into access mode.

Sorry, but what a load of ball cocks.

There is a thread somewhere about the compressor vent outlet becoming blocked which can cause this, cured by drilling a slightly bigger hole, this could be the beginning perhaps.

As Col said, I don’t believe going up and down with brakes on is good engineering practice for the bushes and bearings, it just puts stresses through in the wrong direction and with resistance, far better to be rolling even if only very slightly. Joined the X5 45e club

Compressor vent outlet will be blocked,I had this problem with a friends sport a few years ago,i removed the filter fitted a new one which had a hole in it,the original didn’t have a hole as it was a early model sport,so I’m guessing LR worked this out & started fitting them with holes in.New filter was only about £8 iirc,I kept the old filter but drilled a hole in it just in case I got another sport in with same problem.

I concur - mine did the same with the compressor vent outlet blocked. Hopefully the same for the OP. There is no replacement for displacement - W O Bentley

Still seems a little odd that it only does it in park or with brakes applied as would have thought it had to exhaust air in either case, but this is land rover I guess. Laughing

If it's not going in to access height with the brakes and / or park brake applied, there's a problem.

I'd discuss it with your indie and mention the specific situation that causes the issue. Let them have a look and then discuss again.

Don't "internet diagnose" it. That won't help you in the first instance. It might help later, true, but going i and saying "I've read on the internet that the problem is this, fix it" won't enamour you to your indie, especially if it's still wrong after the work and you're grumpy about it. 2012 SDV6 - it's missing a couple of cylinders
2008 TDV8 - it was a labour of love and is much missed

You could always remove the filter & see if that solves the problem, when my friends did it I removed the filter till the new one came, all that happens,is you can here the air coming out when adjusting the suspension. Andy.

i tried it again this evening. Had the car in park, and the handbrake on. Put it into access mode and it immediately raised up again. I then pressed down into access mode again and it worked?

My guess is that you need to have your suspension recalibrated. 07MY RRS TDV6
