hi all...

I'm after some advice on the black trim that goes around the A / B / D Pillar etc... mines faded what do people use on this to bring it back to life or do they need to be painted?

Also for the scuttle panel at the bottom of the windscreen what do people use on this?

any info is appreciated

For the pullar trim I use quick detailer because mine isn't faded. If yours is faded it might benefit from a MOP to take the fading off, then keep on top of it. The scuttle is typically a poor choice of plastic. It goes grey and anything you put on it is only going to be temporary. I used autoglym bumper/rubber treatment, some use Gtechic G4 i think. There is a thread either on here or the D3 site where someone took it off and painted it, which I imagine should last.

My black trim is still black, but my skuttle panel was greyer than a grey thing. DrRob put me onto this Gtech G4 stuff that O&C mentions above. This is magical stuff, a bit pricey if you see the size of the bottle. You don’t need much and a small bit goes along way. 100% recommend it. 2006 2.7 TDV6 HSE in Cairns Blue.

If you do a search on here, someone actually recommended peanut butter for the black scuttle panel. I would guess it's the oil in it that makes the plastic look black again. No idea how good it is at keeping the plastic black, however. 2012 SDV6 - it's missing a couple of cylinders

That's the thread I meant. Good job.

Thanks. If anyone decides to do this, whilst you have the scuttle off, it's also worth making a little water deflector for the air intake to avoid soggy carpets in the future...

Meguiars ultimate black, it is a white cream, although didn't streak, it left run marks on the paint underneath after rain, wiped away quite easily though.

It didn't work very well on the skuttle panel, but that seems more rubbery than plastic?

I do have some Autobrite direct stuff to try next, here it is the Meguiars on my 2011 plate.

#2 for Maguiars Ultimate black, works a treat on all black pillar trims and grey lower trims and lasts well. Wouldn’t work on the scuttle trim so I removed and painted mine.

How durable is the Ceratrim?
The Autoglym stuff is gone in a few weeks.
