L320 MY2013 360degree camera - not surround..

Hi all,

I have a 2013 L320, it has the TV screen and satnav, and a single rear view camera - it lacks
the surround camera system.
I've seen kits like this one
https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/1080P-HD-Night-...4621555251

which gives you 4 cameras and produces a 360 degree view - also will turn on the side cameras when you are using the indicators.
So the question is.
Is it possible to add this into my car?
I guess it would need to connect into where the existing rear view camera connects - is that under the drivers seat?

Thanks!
David

If this is compatible with your RRS, in fact with any Land Rover, perhaps I’d walk maskless through Wuhan for a month dressed as a Uighur native. But for £133, you kind of have to try it! Thumbs Up L405 P400e Autobiography (MY2020)... Silicon Silver / Espresso

I think I need to ask someone where the rear view camera input goes on the system. Which box does it plug into?

Does anyone know if its the box under the driver or somewhere else?

And I presume that in these days of CAN its not as simple as "The reverse light is on"
cos that would be far to easy! 2013 L320 3.0 TD in grey! sometimes towing a Buccaneer Cruiser.

It plugs into the screen !

I would think that box plugs to the reverse cam input.

You would get front and rear views when manuvering.

Don’t think you would get side veiws when driving at speed though

The box under the drivers front seat on a 2013 car is the TV tuner, the Amp is behind the r/h side trim panel in the boot. The O.E module for surround cameras is under the passengers front seat, but as you don't have them it will not be there, the single rear view camera layout is very basic and as said feed goes to the front screen and is not controlled by any module.

Hi Col,

Do you know how the screen knows to turn on the rear view camera?
is it a simple wire connection when the car is put into reverse - or is it a CAN
bus signal?

Thanks

It's CAN.

It will stay on this rear video mode for 10 seconds after reverse is disengauged
or until the car goes above 10 MPH

Ace thanks Col.
So, putting in the e-bay one could give me 360 view - but only whilst in reverse.

I wonder if there would be a way to fake a message to the display to lie to it!

Anyone got CAN hacking skills?
I wonder though if that would turn on the reverse lights as well! 2013 L320 3.0 TD in grey! sometimes towing a Buccaneer Cruiser.

Could you not wire them in as a separate system with a switch, the factory surround cameras on the RRS1 do not come on automatically and have to be activated via a touch screen icon and do not switch on when reverse engaged only the reversing camera. If you want the cameras to work all the time on the move forward you need to switch them on before you actualy move otherwise they switch off above a certain speed, I can't remember what speed as I rarely use mine, as they are not what could be described as "state of the art" but to be fair I suppose the technology for the original system is rather old and dated now by todays standards.

Cheers
Col

Hi Col,

How does the surround camera send its picture to the screen? is it a separate channel or does it use the same reversing camera connection?
I'd guess it uses the same as the reverse camera is one of the surround ones?
I was hoping I could get it to do the 360 - all the time unless the devices switch told it otherwise.
Ummm thoughts! 2013 L320 3.0 TD in grey! sometimes towing a Buccaneer Cruiser.
