Do current RRS still have oil dilution problem ?

Hi to all,

I have a MY16.5 HSE and I think it's a fantastic car.
Mine suffers of the well known "Fuel In Oil" problem, fortunately in a moderate way (and I have the 5 years warranty extension).

Anyway I'm thinking about a replacement.

I'm a quite long commuter (70km a day, 25000km a year) hence neither a PHEV or a petrol car could be a good choice.
I'm looking for experiences from owners of the new RRSs to know if the problem with the too frequent regenerations of the DPF has been finally solved and if the issues about the fuel in the oil are only a heritage of the past models.

Any new/modern car with a DPF fitted will suffer from the oil dilution & just remember the are now fitting PPF (Petrol Particulate Filters) so get ready for problems with petrol engines. Andy.

I'm sorry but I have to say it's not completely true for all.

My wife's Peugeot and the BMWs of two my friends (a 530 and a X5 3000) don't suffer this problem in a relevant way.
Every model have the same EU6 mark with AD blue and others gas treatments devices.
They can do 25k/30k km between two oil changes...

Mine HSE hardly reach 13k Km.

I'm surprised that doing 70km each way each day gives oil dilution unless there's lots of heavy traffic leading to slow/stop/start driving.

Certainly, 70km each way with most done at decent speed (100km/h for example) shouldn't require lots of DPF regenerations and thus oil dilution shouldn't be an issue. 2012 SDV6 - it's missing a couple of cylinders
2008 TDV8 - it was a labour of love and is much missed

I'm suffering of FIO in a moderate way.
Just an oil change between two services.

In other words I change the oil twice a year.

Hello to all,

I apologize for the bad exposure of the topic.

Every EU6 has oil dilution problems, this is a fact.

I would like to know from the real owners, if a fairly new RRS suffers from the problem to an acceptable level.

If you are a typical diesel owner who drives the car for 20k / 25k km a year, at least you shouldn't do more than one service a year. Especially if you drive a little in the city, like me.

I know that there is a passive DPF regeneration, an active DPF regeneration.
I know that the exhaust temperature must be hot enough at DPF to have a correct passive cleaning cycle, and this depends on the distance between DPF and the engine, etc, etc, etc.

But it doesn't matter much to me. I'm an owner, not an engineer.

I can assure you that these "annoyances" are a bit too "typical" of the old LR euro 6 models.
Other brands have evidently solved and I would just like to know, before a new purchase, what to expect from my next RRS.

The distance between engine and filter is the problem, as JLR explained in the letter posted in this thread.

Interesting info John,

So if I want to continue to have the good feelings of a V6 diesel I can opt for a Velar D275 or D300...

Not a bad alternative, after all
