Are you pushing the seal all the way into the recess in the casing?

Does it leak immediately which would suggest incorrect fitting or damage to the lip of the seal.

If it leaks after a few miles it might be marks on the crank. Have you checked the crank for a burr or roughness.

Just had a thought..I had the crank hardened as advised but the crank swells when hardened would that be enough to cause a problem with the seal ..if so what would I do silverRRS 2.7 TDV6 22"WHEELS FULL COLOUR CODE,STEPS,REMAP..gone

If the crank had swollen, it should have a tighter seal on the inner edges of the oil seal.

Could there be a score on the casting that it fits into allowing oil around the outside?
Just a thought.

Do you know that the engine crankcase is not pressurising - it should have negative pressure. A quick check can be done by taking off the oil filler cap and placing the palm of your hand over it and feel if there's suction - with engine running any pressure will make seals leak - (this was a common fault on engines where the PCV valves were blocked)!

As per my earlier post I'd still suspect fitting damage to seal's lip (or, possibly, a faulty new seal). I usually wrap a crank with one strip of sellotape on the crank edge. make sure its well greased to help the seal slip into place. Obviously the sellotape is removed once the seal has slipped onto the crankshaft. (You could put silicon gasket seal on the casing to help ensure no leak from the outer edge).

(I apologise for mentioning this but you are confident you've fitted it the right way round?)

hi ,thanks for reply, think i might try the sellotape tip,yes i am fitting it the right way(i hope)i did grease it up both times and it seemed to slide on quite nicely, only thing im not to sure about is as Mikey said i pushed it flush with the casing and didnt try to get it on any further so i might try and drift it on as far as poss Embarassed silverRRS 2.7 TDV6 22"WHEELS FULL COLOUR CODE,STEPS,REMAP..gone

If you put it in as far as it will go, it will leak, as it partially blocks the drain hole. That's why I asked Wink

It should be approx 1mm proud of the front face of the casing.

They can be a bit fiddly to fit without damaging them. Lots of oil on the inside of the seals, and the shaft, and carefully push it on, making sure the seal is not being folded over as it goes on Thumbs Up
