United Kingdom 2012 Range Rover Sport SDV6 Autobiography Orkney Grey
Some newbie questions....sorry for any repeats!!!

Hi everyone, just paid the deposit on a Dec 2012 RRS Autobiography 3.0SDV6 - what a change from my VW Polo GT!!! I'm really happy with it, it is 85k miles, but had transmission flushed at 80k and has a FSH. Took the two year warranty option too, which seems pretty comprehensive (Car Care Plan administered). Dealer has also got the wheels refurbished and is changing the cambelt too.

My insurers insist on a tracker, no specification on what level or type, just that it has one fitted. Any suggestions on the simplest solution for this please? The insurance excesses are insane so hoping I never have to use it!

Has anyone chosen to take out Gap insurance? I live in Dorset, so thankfully vehicle theft is less of a concern than London, but still wondering if it is worth the additional £300 for the three years.

Any tips for a first time RRS owner? Already a bit paranoid about my usual carefree parking attitude!

Excited to enjoy the car, there is a lot more to think about than with my little pocket rocket!

Thanks everyone!

If I were you I’d change my insurer! I’ve lost count of the amount of cars I’ve had over the years and never once been asked to supply a tracker! The Gap is worth it but like any insurance only if the worst happens. The only advice I can give you is to look after your RRS, if something is wrong get if fixed before it manifests into something bigger. If you can keep a slush fund for repairs. These cars are fab, but unlike normal cars sometimes things that are cheaper on them can cost a fair bit on a RR! Hope you enjoy your new toy.. Thumbs Up Current: 2010 RRS 3.6 TDV8 HSE

GAP insurance seams reasonable at £100 year.

ESP. as you are paying dealer prices. An insurance company will not pay out, what you paid

Welcome to the forum and good to see another owner from Poole Thumbs Up

Advice for a first time owner would be to put a bit of cash aside for repairs. I've had my Sport for just under a year and I have spent around £3k on parts, service items and some minor mods. I do all of the work on my vehicle myself so I save on the labour costs.

PS. I've also spent nearly £6k on an engine rebuild (but I had a bit of bad luck!)

If you're vehicle hasn't got one - get yourself a spare wheel protector to protect your spare against thieving Censored . Kev

Hi Bayside,
When I changed from xc90 to rrs mid policy Direct line insisted on tracker.
It was far cheaper to cancel policy and went with LV as no tracker required and like for like cover £70 cheaper 1st year. If the initial 1st year discount makes renewal go up to much I’ll find another company.

Yeah I've been thinking about whether to cancel or not, but its the usual balance of losing half a years NCD (again!) plus cancellation fee etc. LV look great, no tracker conditions, but still a whacking great £600 theft excess on top of the voluntary one. I will probably stick with Esure and shop around more when it comes to renewing in March.

I’m paying £400 premium, I’d had a few silly my fault claims over last 10 years but got out of the 5 year free trap. Then my wife got her car hit and runned by a turd and then my xc90 got written off by a neighbour from up the road Oct 2018 driving in back of it. That was no fault and I got full replacement value money paid out to get the rrs.
Even though no fault doesn’t affect NCD your premium does normally go up after being connected to wife’s policy claim and my no fault would put premium up as they load you as your risk factor goes up.
But I feel very lucky 🍀
What’s your premium bayside

Tricky to work it out as it is an extra on top of what I paid for my Polo GT. Best online quote I had was from LV who were coming in at £514, which didn't seem too bad. Their policy is quite good, covers against vandalism for example without loss of no claims....I'll probably stick with Esure, and just look to pick up a very basic tracker to satisfy their conditions....Sounds like you've had a run of bad luck with accidents!!?
