mass air flow sensor

2006 Sport. I would be grateful if anyone could point me to a web site showing how to locate and clean the mass air flow sensor. I have surfed the net and cannot find a suitable site. Andrew Kennedy

The thing on the air flow box.
But I would leave alone

People usually say clean the MAP sensor
Which is the small sensor in the Y. Air inlet in middle of engine.

mass air flow sensor

Thanks for yours Andy!! Researching the problem I am getting it just might just be the Mass-air-flow-sensor that needs a clean. I'v purchased the spray for the job, but before proceeding I am hoping someone out there might be able to send me a picture or better still point me in the direction of a Video as to exactly where the sensor is and how to proceed. Andrew Kennedy

Well on top of the airbox is a
Large jubilee clip.
You loosen this
And the two bolt securing the pipe.
The pipe can then Be moved to the side.

You can then see into the air Meter.

Andy - after I take out the tube in which the Mass Air Flow Sensor is located, I presume there is no reason why I shouldn't remove the sensor from the tube to clean it??! In fact do I need to take the tube out, cant I simple disconnect the electrics and remove the sensor?!? Andrew Kennedy

United Kingdom 2010 Range Rover Sport TDV8 HSE Bali Blue

As Andy has already mentioned, when you disconnect the hose(s), you will be able to see the sensor inside the box,,, you will also notice how delicate they are,, basically a thin wire with a resistance in the centre. Last thing you want to do is start poking them, I don't think they tend to get dirty at all so no need to clean, if they are a problem no other option but to replace. 2010 RRS, TDV8

Cleaning rarely if ever, sorts a problem with the MAF unit.
Have you read the outputs at different revs and loads? This is the usual route to diagnose a fault. The sensor, being in the engine side of the airbox and fed clean air, does not require cleaning. 2011 MY D4 HSE

As has been said above, cleaning never made any difference to mine either, but a new one sorted it. 13MY Range Rover Sport Autobiography SDV6 - mine

10 years ago one of my previous RR was successfully treated with maf cleaner sprayed onto it, so maybe it's one in a million it helps, new is advised if faulty as very sensitive. But of course be sure it's actually faulty before you make it faulty Very Happy
