Brakes squeaking

The rear bakes on my 2016 rrs squeak when I brake, not all the time but enough to pee me off. I replaced the worn pads with new land rover Bremo ones and the discs looked fine. Squeal this there. Any ideas?

Did you fit the anti-squeal shims when you fitted your new pads?

Brake squeal is most attributed to the pads moving (vibrating at a high frequency) in the caliper carriers. You can buy special brake grease to apply to the back of pads where they make contact with the pistons on the caliper. Sometimes, brake pads come with this grease. Alternatively, you could go the 'old school' way and apply a bit of copper slip grease instead.

The grease effectively increases tension between the back of the pad and the piston, damping out any oscillations of the pad in the caliper carrier, thereby preventing squeal. Kev

Actually, looking back at the pictures when I did mine, I don't think the pads on these vehicles have anti-squeal shims which would explain why you didn't get any! Sorry for the mis-information Embarassed I must be getting confused with my wifes car that I replaced the pads on recently.

If I were you, I'd strip it back down, give everything a good clean, especially at the point where the pads move within the carrier, lube up and re-assemble. Kev

Check with the dealer if there is a TSB. When I had the same problem on my SC, the dealer said there was a TSB. It’s one thing they actually fixed on the car.

The only thing that shut mine up, albeit a RRS1 S/C was EBC Redstuff pads not cheap but worth it to shut it up.

TSB - Technical Service Bulletin.

When the manufacturer finds an issue they release that so the dealers have a fix for it. 2010 RRS TDV8 181000km

My front brakes squeak like an old style london taxi. But they do some job stopping this fat b*stard of a car in a hurry when required...
