Theoretically that should work Col. Although it may be worth playing it safe and installing two diodes per headlamp unit to prevent the ignition live and the sidelight feed feeding back to each other ie. When the sidelights are turned on, you also don't want power switched back to the ignition live also.

Personally, the mod in the fusebox was the most convenient for me however. It's simply two wires which are plug and play with no changes made to the existing loom. I also added a little DPST switch so that the functionality can be switched off when the vehicle is taken in to a garage. This avoids any confusion when they can't figure out how to turn the lights off. Laughing Kev

This exactly what I was looking for thank you! Not pretending to know anything about electrics I’m guessing the switch you installed was an inline switch on the patch lead? What switch do I need to get and any pictures of yours... Thumbs Up Cheers Laurence.

That's right Buster. It's a single switch that switches both patch leads. It's a double pole switch so it's effectively two switches controlled by a single button. The switch I used was from Amazon, they come in a pack of 10 for £1.70....

https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B00IID...&psc=1

I used some 'add a circuit' fuse holders from the internet, however, it's very tight to fit them in and not ideal for access to other fuses once installed. If I did it again, I would use the fuse with a breakout wire from Halfords...

I've just nipped out to the vehicle to take some pictures for you. Unfortunately, it's not clear to see so I have taken some pictures of the fuse box printout I used to guide me when doing the mod with the fuses highlighted....

Hope this helps! Kev

could you explain for others what you have done there.

Have you disconnected the side light feed and then applied ignition to the fuse holder output ?

I assume the fuse box in question is the PASSENGER COMPARTMENT FUSE BOX and not the engine bay fuse box?
Can this be fitted without disconnecting the battery? Cheers Laurence.

If you have simply bridged fuse 24 & 49 together as well as 50 & 29 with a switch between the two pairs which disconnects the ignition live feeds from 49 & 50 I understand that, but still not sure what happens when you turn the headlights etc. on in normal use as would this not give a power back feed to the circuits as I thought in my earlier reply. As said not auto electrician so abit unsure. Only if you have to change the new switch position each time would it not be easier just to switch sidelights on every time you start the car?

Cheers
Col

The only thing I changed with the IID was turning off auto wipers. It meant that the intermittent wipe worked as an intermittent with the rate selectable on the column. I hate auto wipers. 2012 SDV6 - it's missing a couple of cylinders
2008 TDV8 - it was a labour of love and is much missed

Yes, this is the interior fusebox behind the glovebox. All headlight functionality remains the same.

The sidelight feeds are not disconnected. They remain in place and therefore all existing functionality remains the same. The ignition (AFL) feeds are routed straight through to the sidelight feeds.

It's a good point about the diodes Col, I may also implement this when I get a spare 5 mins as I have some leftover diodes from my rear map lights mod that now come on when the doors open Smile

Although, I have had this now in place since October with no negative consequences. This is also a common mod within disco3/4 community.

The fairy lights are now on permanently as long as the car is awake. For example, lights switched off...

Fairy lights remain on...

The rear lights remain on also but it's not a problem for me. Kev

Got it now, does seem easier way than cutting into harness, would have thought after a few months if there were any return feed issues it would have showed up by now. Thumbs Up

Cheers

To get to the passenger compartment fusebox, you simply push both support stays inwards. The glovebox then hinges down into the footwell.

All other lighting functionality remains the same Andy. It's just the fairy lights are on whenever the car is awake. Kev

I have definitely got my money’s worth from my IID Tool.
Things I have done with it on my 08 RRS.

Suspension Calibration and custom ride heights.
Turned off the problematic TPMS system
Disabled the Headlamp Washers
Changed the time the dome lights remain on after exiting (15 sec.)
Updated the FW for Transmission and Transfer Case
Performed calibration procedure for Transfer Case
Check and clear codes
Re calibrated steering angle sensor
Used suspension tight tolerance mode for wheel alignment
Reset engine and transmission adaptations after induction cleaning and transmission service
Checked live values for various components

Thumbs Up 2006 LR3 HSE
