Hi all,

Back with yet another problem Under heavy load, flooring accelerator, going up hill etc I get the ubiquitous cloud of black smoke - I've checked the codes and there's no warnings for EGR or Turbo and no engine warning light. If I play with the gears to accelerate smoothly then it's all clear - makes me think it's when the Turbo cuts in.

When having a check of the engine there does seem to be some oily seepage on the front left of the block so I'm inclined to think I have a split pipe BUT I'm not 100% sure which pipes I should be checking - is there an idiots guide somewhere or a couple of pics as to which pipes I should be looking at?

I was going to take the easy way out and get the local stealer to check it but they aren't taking vehicles for a couple of weeks and we're off to France in under 14 days (if the tunnel is not blocked with migrants that is).

And no, I haven't got around to blanking the EGRs yet

Can anyone point me at the pipes to check?

I had clouds of black smoke and it was indeed due to a split intercooler pipe (the one on top of the 2.7 V6).

Yup - that lines up with the crud that's sprayed out in that area - pipe seems a tad flexible so I'd say it might be shot inside too.

Did you do the replacement yourself? Seems fairly simple - access to top is simple jubilee clip and just a panel to remove under the intercooler to get to the other end?

As I'm pushed for time I may just replace that side now and the other side after my trip to France. Did you use a PNH500025?

Now where the hell did I put the Swarfega?

I didn't actually do it myself as I had the car in for new front wishbones too.

I'll try to dig out the invoice for the p/n.

Yes, that's the correct PN for the main hose, but I'd suggest you buy a set of silicone ones.

Easy as pie to replace the main hose. 2 jubilee clips and 4 plastic rivets. The left-hand, large one is not too bad, the little one is a PITA. The main one is the most common failure, though the others have been known to fail.

I'd also suggest you get on and blank your EGRs - Easy enough to do and no software changes required. Guide: http://www.disco3.co.uk/gallery/albums/use...0SMALL.pdf

Took the easiest path as I needed to get the car sorted before heading to France so got a genuine LR part for the main hose from the nearest dealer for a bargain.

Yup, massive split on underside that just couldn't be seen. 30 minutes and all done. No longer am I a Panzer on retreat from Moscow going up hill.

However, after removing the centre from one of the rivets, the other half of the rivet disintegrated on me. I think I replace the whole set but I'm not having much luck tracking down the p/n for those - any ideas?

Heard lots of good things about the silicone pipes so I think I'll change them next summer when I have more time - not looking forward to the two smaller pipes though! Probably do the EGR blanking at the same time.

When this happened to me I replaced all the hoses (except the small one) with silicone ones, and had the EGRs blanked, but the problem was a split in the outer casing of the inter cooler.
