2005 Range Rover Sport TDV6 HSE Java Black
Revving, hunting, shudder under load RRS 2005

Hello,

I've got a shuddering problem at low revs only when the car is moving and when a steady speed is beig maintained. The only way to get rid of it is floor it. Its not tyre related. Its like the clutch is slipping and its thinking about changing gear but doesnt.

At a steady speed the revs alternate up and down around 300-400rpm each side of where ever they are in the range. So at 2500rpm the needle would travel to 2800 then to 2200 almost like the engine is hunting. Again if I floor it the problem goes away.

Its worse going up a hill and doesnt happen at high revs.

Any ideas?
Thanks,
Jamie

Sounds like a Torque converter problem. Cayenne Turbo "S" 521bhp Standard Smile

As ELD stated, it's a classic sign of the autobox fluid deteriorating and needing changing. You can get it flushed by 4-tech or double flushed by your dealer at an extortionate price!!

Will almost certainly fix the problem. Thumbs Up Bodsys Brake Bible

At a steady load / speed the torque converter is trying to engage it's lock up mechanism but in your case it seems like it is failing to engage. As said a change of fluid and a flush may well fix the problem. Fingers crossed Wink Cayenne Turbo "S" 521bhp Standard Smile

United Kingdom 2008 Range Rover Sport TDV6 SE Java Black

Hi Everyone.

I know this is an old thread, but I am having the same problem with my 102k 2008 SE.

To this end how difficult a job is it for the home mechanic, or does anyone know where I could get it done in the Preston area without it costing £1000's.

Thanks in advance gang

It's easy enough to do yourself. I did mine in about 30 mins. Full flush, using a pressure sprayer on my driveway and a bit of hosepipe.

Mannol AG55 is a well respected fluid for the 6 speed ZF 6HP26 gearbox. The cheapest place I found was buying directly from Germany.

20 litres for 63 Euros: https://www.motor-oel-guenstig.de/schmiers...uessigkeit

12 litres is usually enough, but I pushed the full 20 litres through mine.

As yours is a 2008, you will have a different fluid cooler to me, but the principle is the same.

Have a look at the Filo method here for more info:
