That would be my first thought too. A rattling heat shield above the exhaust. They are in several sections bolted to the underside of the body.

Agreed. Remove the pads, roughen them again on some coarse grade wet or dry paper, coat the back with a liberal coating of copper grease where it contacts the piston and all will be well... Thumbs Up ...

I just cracked a pipe union on the ABS modulator and bled in the old fashioned way, with an assistant pumping the pedal.

I think the heat generated is linked directly to pedal pressure, co-efficien ...

Yes, you can bleed in the traditional way. You may have to bleed as far as the ABS modulator first, to get the fluid moving, then at the wheels.

If the fluid is dark it may well be master-cyl seals ...
