VA not sure of the legality - there is an offence of 'Theft By Finding' which comes under the Theft Act, but I am not sure whether it applies to goods washed ashore.

Will interesting to see what happens over the next few weeks. I am sure the Insurance Companies will be sending thier investigators down to try and track down the more expensive items. Honestly what they are doing is not illegal. The police were even handing out the forms needed to declare the goods as people left the beech. What is illegal is not declaring the salvage.

VA looks like your right -

The normal payout on salvage claims is about 40% of the value. Looks like the motley bunch have made some money - if they report it.

They've closed the beach now (although it took the shipping company to set up their own cordon, god forbid the police did it!)
