Electric handbrake recoding ??

Have conflicting information . Seller of new unit says it does not kneed coding by a dealer but a garage has told me they have to take it to a dealer for coding which puts up the cost .

I was considering buying a new unit and either swopping the circuit board from the old unit into it or fitting the motor/gearbox from the new unit into the old to maintain the coding in the unit .

Any thoughts currently the brakes are seized ON Always listen to old people or when they die you will live on in ignorance.

I wouldn't waste time swapping boards, unless you are doing the whole job yourself.

Ask the garage if the price will be less if it doesn't need coding.

I think you need to tell it the car is an auto or manual (disco)

I’ve done a few, always had to go into JLR-SDD and tell it there was a new EPBM.

Did the EPBM jam up? There’s an unjamming procedure in diagnostics and it’s also possible to take them apart and unjam them. Then you need to adjust the parking brake shoes by the book to prevent it happening again, for a little while at least.

You can pull the emergency release cable under the cup holders, should get you moving at least. If not you have jammed park brake shoes or cables. 2011 RRS HSE Luxury 3.0 TDV6 Fuji White on Ebony/Ivory

It needs to be calibrated which is presumably what the garage means by "coding".

As NoExpert says, that requires the SDD. Doesn't need to be a dealer, a suitably JLR independent can do it as they will have the necessary kit too. I'd be surprised if a main dealer would calibrate it unless they'd supplied and fitted it (at great expense, no doubt). 2012 SDV6 - it's missing a couple of cylinders

Supplier of EPB says no coding required . Hence the idea to re build the original coded parts into a replacement..just change the motor or board Always listen to old people or when they die you will live on in ignorance.

Workshop manual says requires calibrating using the JLR SDD.

Your choice, as always. 2012 SDV6 - it's missing a couple of cylinders
