My DAB isn't working but Bluetooth does so I just use Spotify on my phone to play music in the car or use it (or BBC sounds) to get audio books, etc.. I listen to TMS via the phone too. So the loss of DAB isn't the end of the world. Doesn't have Android Auto either, being a 2012, so never had it to miss it. 2012 SDV6 - it's missing a couple of cylinders

I like driving an older car, no DPF, no AdBlue, no unnecessary electronics and you can service it yourself - no issues.

Coming to the end of year 15 (owned since new) and the only items that I have replaced are an alternator and an oil cooler (plus normal serviceable items). I just put diesel in it and drive.

I use the car daily and mainly do short trips. The only hassle is keeping the battery charged and dealing with intermittent central locking issues, which can be a pain at times.

The car is insured for $45,000 (about 23,000 pounds), so it is not worth trading in on any JLR product as the dealers would only give scrap value for it (I don't buy used cars). Doing less than 4,000 km/year, fuel consumption is not an issue.

To be fair, cars haven't massively improved over the years, except in toys, and if you're happy to live without carplay, the latest sat nav or lots of display screens, then the older cars make a massive case for themselves.
The additional complexities are great until they break, newer cars are more to insure, harder to fix, usually have more expensive parts (even tyres), may drive a little better but not by enough to swing it.

Provided you're prepared to keep up to it, fix corrosion and replace parts as needed, then there's no reason you couldn't run an older car for decades.

The key question is whether, in your heart, you're ready for a change. If not, then don't - you'll regret it. This isn't a mind decision, it's a heart one.

I moved my much loved 13 year old Jag XF on in June, on the face of it, because it needed 3-4k spending on it and that might not have resolved all the issues, but the reality is that 3k didn't touch the sides of the deposit I put down on the 494, let alone what I've paid out on repayments since - so if it were really a financial decision, it was a very stupid one.
In truth, I'd been trawling Autotrader drooling over 494's for 2 years. It was just the excuse I was looking for.

For sale value, sadly the L320 hasn't got much of a following.
Not to say they won't get a growing following like the L322 has developed over recent years, but it's not there yet. Like my old XF, amongst the 'crowd', there are many real enthusiasts, but in the wider world, it's just seen as an old car. 2021 L494 D300MHEV Autobiography

I don't think the L320 will ever get a proper following.

It's not a real Range Rover when for the same money you can buy a real one in the L322.

It's less practical than it's bigger version, the L319 Discovery. The Disco has a lot of aftermarket kit available because people used it for off road / travelling whilst the L320 was, sadly, a footballer's car.

Now, we know that the L320 is as good off road as the L319 because, after all, it is one underneath the panels. But many think of them as no good - the number of times I've had people say "they're no good off road/ in the snow, so get a proper 4x4" over the years is amazing. And when I ask, everyone that says it has never driven a L320. But they "know they're rubbish". With a reputation like that the L320 isn't going to be a classic. Screw it! I'm keeping it. The Golf can go and I'll spend the £3k ish on getting it perfect again. All your thoughts have helped in making the decision. There's nothing like the surfeit of power this thing has at the price. Plus, it's great for dogs and the tip runs. Here's to another 10 years by when, maybe, when there's none left out there bar ours, "those who know" will know what a L320 is really about Perhaps those long retired footballers will want to relive their youth  Cheers,

Ironically, my thoughts are turning away from the L320 (as good as it is) towards the newer hybrid models. Not the 400e with the 2 litre lump and hump in the boot, but the 440e with the 3 litre lump and no boot floor mountain range. Also, the later models are actually behaving like a proper hybrid with decent mpg and EV-only range reports. Have a charge-at-home facility and they make sense to me.

It's either that or 5.0SC and normal car hybrid daily driver (which misses the point of having the RRS for me anyway. 2012 SDV6 - it's missing a couple of cylinders

Yes, he makes some good points but, other than the celeb endorsement and the royalty tag, all I think he said was the L322 is more of a soft wafter with worse tech. Must admit, I've never even been in a L322 but I do know that the 5.0 is a beast in the L320. I can only imagine in the L322 being softer and not having cornering control, it's not a better car drive in a spirited fashion. And, if you've got 508 bhp, is there any other way? Seems what we need is James May and Chris Harris to counteract Clarkson & Metcalf and big up the L320.

Do we have any YouTube influencers on here? Surely some of you SVR drivers must know someone? I promise not to mention that my L320 is nearly as quick and for the want of a pulley change, just as powerful  Cheers,

I've had a couple of L322s and although I do like them, there is simply no comparison - my L320 beats it hands down on everything except three things. Lack of seat on the tailgate, high speed comfort off-road and load space.

Having not had a FFRR, whilst I can see the appeal of the fold down tailgate "seat", it's not asif you can't open the tailgate and perch on the boot floor of a 320 or 494 (and being full length the open tailgate 'canopy' is going to give better protection against the rain).
I've always wondered, doesn't the bottom door make reaching into the boot more difficult, given you have to stand 2 feet away and reach over it? 2021 L494 D300MHEV Autobiography
