3.0 SDV6

Hi

My apologies as I'm sure this topic has been discussed many times.

I have just put a deposit down on a RRS 3.0 sdv6.
Now I'm getting cold feet i go from believing all sdv6 engines are going to go bang inevitably to thinking the problem is over hyped!!
What's the opinion here?

Thanks

If i had to use one word - then like so many criticisms of JLR products - overhyped.
Hundred of thousands running around with mega miles and happy owners.

An awful lot depends on it's previous life. Well loved, regular oil changes and they should last as well as anything else, but it is true that they don't cope with neglect as well as, say a Toyota.

So with all such things, history is king. 2021 L494 D300MHEV Autobiography

Thanks.

I've driven many other contenders and nothing made me 'want' it like the Sport!

I nearly bought one for 26k but decided on this one for 17k in my mind it means i have 9k for any probs!

England 2012 Range Rover Sport SDV6 HSE Santorini Black

I bought mine eighteen months ago and although I've had to keep spending on it, I wouldn't change it for anything other than another one. Hopefully, another £2,000.00 I'm about to spend on it will be the last for a while.

I was stupid though, I bought mine privately and never had it properly checked over before I parted with my cash. Big Cry

Before you part with your cash, make sure you get it thoroughly checked by someone who knows them.

Well, I'm buying it from a specialist land rover dealer/repairer He is doing a main service and fresh Mot and 3 months warranty with him. S o hopefully i should be sound at the moment. Of course warranties are hard to come by for vehicles of this age.

It definitely is overhyped, but it is a concern… unfortunately. Service it, warm it up and cool it down properly. You should be fine. L494 SVR

It's an issue just like the older 2.7TDV6 had an issue with crank bearings spinning. Did/does it happen? Yes. Is it as common as reading forums/problem pages/youtube/etc., would have you believe? No. Is there anyway to tell if a particular vehicle is going to fail? No. Just you either go with it and try not to worry or you go elsewhere.

There's plenty else on a RRS to worry about, frankly. Rolling with laughter

Mine's on 167k miles and so far, so good (hoping not to jinx myself!). Serviced annually when the MOT is due (as I don't currently do more than 16k miles a year so an annual is all it needs) with items fixed as required in between. 2012 SDV6 - it's missing a couple of cylinders
2008 TDV8 - it was a labour of love and is much missed

Had mine for over 8 years and still loving it and don’t want to replace it with anything else as nothing else compares to it in my personal option. I knew nothing about the crankshaft issue with this engine until a year in and read all the horror stories online It made me get an aftermarket warranty just in case the worst happened. I cancelled the after market warranty last year as the premium doubled to almost £2K . I get mine serviced every year at MOT time and as it’s a 3rd car it does about 4000 miles per year if that but still gets serviced as per LR schedule. It also goes to a LR specialist who came recommended on this forum and they certainly know everything about these vehicles. Like everyone says on here keep it well serviced and done at a specialist and enjoy the car and don’t worry about what could happen. If you google any car these days you probably wouldn’t buy any of them as people only talk about the bad things not the good things
