Air con regas

Just been to kwik fit for a free Air con check as my Air con isnt working very well suspect slow leak, Air con starts off cold not freezing to keep hands on like usual after a few minutes your hand would normally feel freezing but my system was cold but not cold enough, After a while the drivers side would blow luke warm and passenger side cool but not cold so i presumed low pressure, I bought one of those recharge kits of ebay with about 454g in the bottle which i topped up. This didnt make any difference tbh so i definitely thought i had a leak or other component issue, With Kwik fit offering a free check then i thought i have nothing to lose, So i took it to them to see what they say.

On the website it says a probe is used on the lower vent to take a temperature check of the system to determine if it needed a recharge, After the tech felt the air been cold on start up he said i dont think a recharge would improve it, A probe wasnt used and they were busy so i think he would have been happy if i said ok, I said if you can do all the checks please as i think it has a leak or does need a charge, The young lad said ok and put it on the machine about an hour, After i asked him if it had a leak or needed a regas and he said its done everything no issues recorded, So im wondering if theres a slow leak there machine doesnt detect maybe? I asked about before and after pressure and he said system showed 530g in system before and now theres 810g in the system, Which if thats correct it did need a regas but he was saying before he didnt need one based on him feeling the vent temperature been cold, I think the issue is they dont know anything until the machines plugged in and a full check and regas has been completed.

The lad did say this system has 2 compressors which at that point i did think hes not a clue or do they have 2 compressors? In the end he didnt charge and pointed me in the direction of a local specialist so i cant grumble, He tried his best but think their knowledge and expertise is basically plug machine in and turn on.

Take it to a specialist.
The type of machine that kwikfit uses pulls a vacuum to detect a leak in the system and runs this for about an hour. This is nowhere near enough pressure differential to show up a small leak. Positive pressure needs to be applied.
I have a leak in my condenser and a regas when the weather starts to warm up lasts until autumn. At about £100 each time, I'll live with it rather than shell out the £900/£1000 I've been quoted for a permanent fix. RRS HSE Dynamic SDV6 2014

You cannot just throw gas at it and hope for the best,, you have to put in a measured amount to suit the system. The system charge is on a sticker on the slam panel under the bonnet,,, too much and it won't work. 810g sounds about right for a dual system ( front and rear),, whereas front system only is about 650g. The only way to charge it correctly is to vac it down then recharge with the correct amount,,, but check first as to what is required. 2010 RRS, TDV8
