2.7 TDV6 torque converter replacement

Hello,

I have a 2005 2.7 TDV6 with a 6hp that I am using as a cheap run around. However, it seems that the torque converter is on its way out. It’s not slipping or juddering yet, just a slight whine occasionally currently.

I would need to replace it myself or else scrap the car, so happy to try.

After reading the owners manual and some posts, it seems that it can be done on the ground. I have a complete toolset and plenty of space. However, is there any previous experience from someone who’s done it before that can add some confidence?

Also, according to the owners manual the body should be raised, seemingly for access to top transmission bolts. Is this essential?

Thank you

I have a TDV8 so there may be some differences but before you get out the spanners, have you tried any gearbox additives? My Indie diagnosed a vibration as a torque converter on its way out but before resorting to a second mortgage, they said I should try a power flush and add an additive (I'm Guessing Dr Tranny? but not sure). That was January 2021 and 35,000 miles ago. All good so far. Robin

Thank you.

Happy to try the Dr Tranny, ordered some now.

I have already performed a “flush” by changing the fluid 3 times and replacing the filter/pan and mechatronic seals on the last change. It drive smooth and shifts as expected, just the occasional whining noise from I suspect torque converter.

I used liquid moly 1800 ATF, could this be causing the issue? The zf stuff was too expensive to justify.

I added the lube guard instant fix stuff and its worked really well to quieten the torque converter Very Happy

However, what does that mean? Can anyone explain?

Thanks!
