Fuel tank support

Has anyone else had difficulty in procuring a new fuel tank support, all the UK Internet suppliers of this item have any in stock and cannot give me a promise date of when they will have one available. Even JLR Dealer in Derby has 2 vehicles awaiting delivery. I think this situation is disgraceful thanks to the lack of spares I now have a 3 ton paperweight on my drive[/quote]

Hi,

I ordered mine from Rimmer Bros on back order it took over 6 months to arrive. That was back in 2023 when ordered I thought it might have been because of covid but obviously not if there is still a delay in in getting them.

Daft thought.
This is a common rot area on the RRS clearly (though I don’t know which one).
I’ve just come from a Jaguar XF. That suffers from the same issue with the rear crash bar, and when it rots out, the first you know is when you find your exhaust on the floor.
I searched for new ones and came up empty. Searched for used ones but found near scrap for big money.

In the end, I found a used one in perfect, new condition. Only it was in the U.S. Now of course your immediate reaction is how do you get something like that from the states and stay solvent. But remember, such things sell for a premium in the U.K. because they’re rare. Not so in Texas and California where they outlast the car. There, breakers can’t give them away.
So whilst of course, shipping is a tad costly, you pay a fraction for the item.
Even after paying near £200 for shipping my heavy crash bar, I was still up in the deal.
May not work in your case, I have no idea, but worth investigating? 2021 L494 D300MHEV Autobiography

Excessive rot

Seems to be a design flaws with this as mine rotted more on the nearside then the smaller offside tray. With it being such a crucial part of the vehicle you would hope that it been addressed on the newer models, which I doubt. Mine failed the MOT due to excessive rot so at the moment it's on ramps on my drive. I was quoted £416 for one from a scrap yard, but when they're ononly approx £100 more brand new I'll be waiting till it's in stock again

Nearside always rots out first. Same on the Jag. That’s the side where most of the salt ends up.
Not so much a design fault. More that they weren’t protected properly. So after 10 or 11 years of U.K. salted road, they rot out.
I’d be very surprised if they’d improved things on later cars. They certainly never resolved the Jag during its 8 year run.
I guess the sensible thing for us newer owners to do would be to remove them and paint them up with Hammerite. Are they easy to remove?

Is this not it?

Worried about my 2019 XF now Laughing

Though I thought there were plastic under trays between the wheel base.

2019 xf (X260) is fine. its the x250 to 2015 ish that rots its crash bars.
Watched a video on replacing the tank support - was thinking remove it and put some protection on it.

looks like a couple of day's worK to get it out!

So expensive to prevent and even more expensive if you just ignore it and let it rot. 2021 L494 D300MHEV Autobiography

Looking at the photos of the new item on ebay, it appears that there is no drainage provision in the cradle. If so, it will just collect water/salty water and then hold it between the cradle and tank. That's guaranteed to be corrosion issue. At least the cradle on the L320 has a drainage hole at its lowest point. Not ideal, as they still corrode, but better than nothing. 2012 SDV6 - it's missing a couple of cylinders
2008 TDV8 - it was a labour of love and is much missed

Buy one from ebay, drill a hole for the water and seal the edges.

Them plenty of rust converter, paint and grease.
Wont stop the issue but will slow it down. L320 Range Rover Sport 2008
