You usually have the engine upside down to fit a crank.

Thanks Andy. I will follow these steps. I'll keep you posted. I've already got all the main and conrod bearings ready. |

you cannot slap in any old crank ..it all needs measuring and plastigauge testing ..look at the current LR time to see them re build a franken motor which is what you are trying to do . The fact that you rebuilt it and then lost all the oil shows your mechanical aptitude. Always listen to old people or when they die you will live on in ignorance.

One part of your reply is useful, and thanks for that. But as far as my mechanical aptitude, I'll let you decide. I need help, not poor comments. But thanks again, because you're 100% right about the plastigauge... which I knew but thought that this time... |

One of my concerns, is that you need to split the gearbox and engine to change crank.

I've been following the series with interest and the conclusion I came to is that the precision and care you need to have in order to successfully rebuild one of these engines is so massive that there's no hope of ever buying a good one from a re-manufacturer (that level of care would simply cost too much). I guess someone could do it themselves if they have the skills and workshop of Christian but way beyond anything I could ever hope to achieve in a sensible amount of time. In other words, if the bottom end is shot, bin it and get a good used one that's not been messed with! 2021 L494 D300MHEV Autobiography 2019 Discovery Sport D180 HSE |

Christian and Vera are of another world and skill, too. Really guys, I'd love to get one engine or bottom end, but from here (my siland) I can't know id an engine is trustworthy and can be shipped from abroad. I just have to trust the buyer and so many foul/ so I try and do with what I have but, as for TDV6, none. Do you know any trutsworthy shop selling good quality engines? and ready to ship them? |

No one does it here but yet another question : Would I be better off have my crankshaft refurbished, rather than pursuing an engine I'd more likely not get. What do I need : Just shipping the Crankshaft or they need the bottom end with it ? Thanks |
